25% for me . i really hated giving my money away to someone else. ran the numbers and it pissed me off enough to go on my own..

 

I’ll break it down.

Insurance - $8833 / year = $736 / month = $24 / day
Maintenance ( 2 per month ) - $550 / service = $36 / day
Licensing - $2100 / year = $6 / day
Random - $5000 / year = $14 / day

so for the 8 days I was out on the road it was an extra

 

Your trailer rent was pretty high too, imo.

 

What about maintenance and not PMs?

 

yeah 1000 a month for a 6 - 7 year old trailer . they were making a killing.

My nickel-

I get your point, my owner operator gets 75%.....his new 389 supposed to be here soon. Now he wants to talk about rates and percentages again I’d bet, as his expenses have increased.
I don’t know that I’ll be willing to move much; what I’m bringing to the table has some very real costs which haven’t gone down just because his costs have gone up. At the end of the day 75% of 300,000 is better than 100% of 200,000// Doing the math on what somebody else grosses disregards what they are bringing to the table imo

$1000 a month for a flatbed trailer is a ####ing lot. Even if it’s brand new that’s a ####ing lot.

I personally know several people that were fed up with paying a percentage to a motor carrier. Out of spite they went and got their own authority, and now are responsible for lots of compliance regulation, while working with brokers and waiting 30+ days to gross the same kind of revenue.

i’m not applying this to you personally, just sharing that a larger percentage of the people I know with their own authority would do much better financially and personally if they were leased to a carrier.

A lot of people let ego control their emotional responses to factual situations. I’ve certainly done plenty of that myself in my life.

So back to the topic: I’m gonna be turning this round two times this week because my dispatcher got greedy, and forgot that I hate running more than 2000 miles a week.
