Hello JimF
You can qualify for the WIA program if you are considered, "Under employed".
The income requirements vary from region to region.... You would have to provide paycheck information, for all members of the household, monthly expenses and number of dependents in your care....
I helped a gentleman get his funding in Spartanburg, SC, 2009, he had a family of three and income less than $56,000.00. I thought that they set the bar pretty high.
This program is designed to help train/re train individuals to enter/re enter the workforce.
If you already have a degree or pertinent training in a field that you could find employment in then you might not qualify for this program.
Best of luck to You and Your Success!!!!!Last edited by a moderator: Jan 27, 2010

Thanks, kickin'. Rason I asked was that I was sent to a ARRA (subset of WIA) session, only to find out that household income for 2 people was aprox. $15,000. My wife makes more than a bit double that. Asked why they couldn't tell me that before I wasted my time (and gas) driving to the session, was told they don't have time to give out the details on a individual basis. I mean, really! How long does it take to explain that to qualify, you must be a 'did-placed worker" (laid off) or be under a certain income level? A lot less time than it took me to type this!
I'll post my situation, for what it's worth, and my thought about returning to driving, if for no other reason than to get it straight in my head. Look in the "Questions from new drivers" section (for lack of a better place) a little later today.
Thanks, all.kickin chicken Thanks this. -
The WIA funding offers training in a variety of vocations. CDL training is just one part of that.
Rick, you know, or should know by now, that I endorse Community/Technical Colleges and their Truck Driver Training programs.
I try to provide information to help other members to reach an informed career decision. If a WIA particpant chooses to go to a "CDL Mill", then that is their perogative. I will not bash them, judge them nor scorn them for their choice.
I suggest that you consider starting, or adding to, a thread regarding: CDL Mills. This way you can post links and and information to help support your plight. Members could come to you and post, instead of you having to seek them out and post information randomly on other threads that have no relevance to your cause.Last edited by a moderator: Jan 27, 2010

Well, for those of you in NC, if your yearly household income is more than $15k for 2 people, forget WIA. I just went to the local info session, it had the same income level as the ARRA one I went to last week.
What frosts me the most is that they won't tell you before hand. So I wasted $10. worth of gas to go to both sessions, just to find that out.esanders79 Thanks this. -
I applied for the WIA program here in College Station Texas. After 4 hours I was told that I did not qualify because I was terminated. I did some research online and found that you did qualify if you were laid off or terminated. Back the the wonderful Texas Workforce Office. 6 yes 6 hours later I was told that I USE to make to much money. Apparently 2 people can live off of $14,800 a year so if you earned more than that last year you don't qualify. After all this I was pretty pissed over the wasted time, fuel and the stupidity of the people running the program. As I was leaving I was told that if I applied for "Food Stamps" then I would automatically qualify. So let me get this straight. If I apply for more government hand outs (Food Stamps) them I'm in? It killed me to file for unemployment. I am 39 and have never asked for unemployment. I have always picked myself up and got back in the fight. Now they tell me I have to ask for more tax payer paid program money, that will do nothing to help get me back to earning a living, in order to get employment??? And people still don't understand what has happened to the economy? By the way I checked on the Food Stamp deal (didn't need or want them and didn't plan on spending them) and was told that since I use to make to much money I don't qualify!!!!!!!! Makes me wonder why all he shootings happen at schools and not government offices.
