That is not a given. It depends on a host of factors. As I said, that guy in Texas had a problem with that very thing. I'm not saying it won't happen. I'm saying it is not guaranteed.

I have no problem with people choosing what works for them. Im not saying apple vs windows isnt the dominant duoply. Theres things each does exceptionally well.

Whay i AM saying is that i dont use the things apple is strong on, and really dislike the system from gui to buisness practice and i also cant justify their hardware prices.

Ms, in too many ways has been taking apples lead on all the things i DONT like, while introducing a bevy of garbage all their own.

So that leaves me with linux, which has its own foibles, but at least i can make it MINE as opposed to being told that the things i bought arent actually mine

See right to repair for instance, which is hardware, but sooooo much of it is software locks that took deliberate malice on the part of tesla, apple, samsung, john deere etc etc etc to prevent you from owning the things you THOUGHT you purchased.

I can't disagree. Windows 11 today looks like a Mac more then a PC today! Agreed, buy what works for you!

Late last night I finally got what I believe is the RTM Windows 11 ISO.

So far it seems very stable. No broken apps noticed so far! We will see.

Just wanted to update something. Anybody that has ever used RUFUS to create an installation media will love this. You can set Rufus to remove all the crap and it will install win 11 on older PCs. I just installed win 11 on my old Dell 3540 this morning. All the win 10 drivers worked and all the devices have working drivers.

Why though? They're just making windows worse with every release now. They had an accidental slip up that shows the future of windows. Advertisements in file explorer not just the start menu.

I'm simply putting the information out! Each person has to make those decisions based on what they want! I am about 50% PC and about 50% iOS.

I'd like to put it on both my machines. They were both 8's updated to 10.

One of them needs more ram though. 4 just isn't enough.

I decided to NOT replace my old Dell 3540 Latitude laptop a while back and decided to refurbish it instead. Found everything I needed on eBay except one item. I took the optical drive out and replaced it with a 2TB HDD in a caddy, and replaced the main drive with a 250GB M.2 SATA SSD in an adapter. I replaced the Motherboard with another one with a better CPU and replaced the back case as well as the webcam. On Monday I was waiting to hear from my daughter the news coming from her medical appointment and decided to occupy my time with doing some testing. I discovered ALL the Dell chipset drivers would run in windows 11 and early yesterday morning installed windows 11 on it. The best way to check to make sure you have no hardware issues is to look at the device manager! If you see no triangles your good to go! I also installed SpeedFan and checked to make sure my CPU is not overheating. All in all, I have a fantastic laptop that my daughter has her eyes on now!

I wanted to update this thread with two items. First, if you want to install Windows 11 on old equipment it is possible to do. Personally, I don't recommend doing so, but I did do it. If you are not sure about installing an OS on a PC don't do this. Download the latest release of RUFUS. Get at least a 6GB flash memory that will go into a USB port. The SD card reader does NOT support booting from. Then use the Windows 11 ISO file and start Rufus. You will see a drop-down that will allow you to uncheck the TPM and Processor requirements as well as remove the MS account requirement. One last thing though, Windows 11 has an issue with AMD motherboards where it "studders". This is the 2nd thing I wanted to talk about. If your computer is old and the OEM is no longer making BIOS updates you CAN NOT fix this studdering. I have a built system using an AMD motherboard and I can get BIOS upgrades. AMD fixed this with their AMD AGESA V2 update to 1.2.0.7.in their latest BIOS upgrade. Also a word of caution about flashing BIOS. DON"T DO IT if you have never done so before and DO NOT DO IT unless your desktop PC has a UPS because all it takes is a small brownout and it will brick your PC.
