I am hoping a few truckers out there have experience what we as OTR team drivers are experiencing.
We were basically set up for failure this week. We are, as said OTR team drivers and as I have searched and read if a team driver is near a place where they need to cover for a dedicated route, that team driver is the LUCKY ONES.
We were assigned a UPS airport loads to deliver from point A to point B of the airports. This account is time sensitive and we as team drivers have maximized our 70hrs.
So here we are running on recaps with no breaks and all. Just because its UPS airport delivery where the load is flown upon arrival we are to keep on rolling, despite of our sleeping pattern and schedules which wasnt even close to our schedules.
Its towards the end of the week and this route is officially shutting us down physically and mentally. All we get from dispatch is reason for being late and keep on rolling.
We have decided to leave this company which I know I should expose but since it has no known reviews we will keep it as is. No empathy for drivers only money for the companies pocket.
Let's just say their main terminal is from New Ulm, MN **hint, hint**
Please let us know if anyone else has experience this and what is recommended if for some odd reason we decide to stay with the company.
Unfortunate event in trucking company.

OK, if I'm reading correctly, you have been given a new route that is wearing you (two) out ? Hard for a team to run out of hours, but it is possible, I'm aware. I'm confused about scheduling as you say. 2 people should be able to "adjust " their schedules. And yes, UPS loads need to be there, like now, especially to an airport.
Another Canadian driver, LtlAnonymous, Lonesome and 2 others Thank this. -
you are on a dedicated account for UPS. that is air freight that MUST be there on time or even a bit earlier. as a team , you must adjust to the schedule for sleeping/resting/driving. then of course for a meal, fueling etc. as i read it, the 2 of you just ain't doing the job, especially if other teams can do it.
you were not set up for failure, that is an excuse for you and your co-driver to use for your lack of scheduling your time better.Another Canadian driver, Trucker61016, skinnytrucker and 9 others Thank this. -
To reword my long message.
We didnt have the hours to start the dedicated UPS route that we had to cover for the regular team driver. Our recaps were from 5-8hrs at most, the first few days.
The schedule that I was mentioning was our driving time which is usually 3-3. Having to do 5hrs or so and switching right after was not working to make the arrival time.
My apologies if I confused anyone.Another Canadian driver, Trucker61016, jethro712 and 2 others Thank this. -
If you're out of hours then there's no alternative. If you're unable to safely drive due to fatigue there's no alternative.
If you're unhappy with the new route and unwilling to do your job then find a different job that you're willing and able to do.Another Canadian driver, Eddiec, Boondock and 1 other person Thank this. -
I agree with everything you said, next time we will ask more about a delivery before accepting it. The company seemed to be in a rush to assigned someone without providing details.
Always learning in the trucking industry!Another Canadian driver, LtlAnonymous, LameMule and 1 other person Thank this. -
Reason we think it was a set up was because we were asked to do what's called a t-call for the load we currently had and pick up a different load to delivery to the "place" where the UPS dedicated route started.
Meaning "we" were the only team driver in the area to be assign the UPS dedicated route.
When we had just ran out of our 70hrs.Another Canadian driver and Boondock Thank this. -
you were there, you were told to do the run/route. had you refused, you could have been fired on the spot for refusing to work.
what i am finding interesting is the short amount of driving time each of you do.....3 hours each..???
geez, when i ran with a co-driver in my earlier years, we ran our full 10 hours (at the time it was 10, now of course, it is 11).
we got from MA to CA in quick time. and that is doing it legally by paper logs.Another Canadian driver, LameMule and Boondock Thank this. -
I run 3am-3pm and my co-driver runs 3pm-3am.
It's the same as before. 11hrs drive.
The little hours I mentioned were the hours gained at midnight after running our entire 70hrs.Another Canadian driver, Trucker61016 and Boondock Thank this. -
