Odd. Years ago Baggett had a fleet of White 3000 tilt cab straight trucks. Hauled Black Powder from around B'ham off up into the mines in VA.
Word was they were the highest paid drivers of the day. Made more than the Knox Glass drivers out of Palestine, TX. Mature, more settled men.
had these big green reflective EXPLOSIVE strips taped across the doors and sides. Rear bumpers like a step on straight city route truck.

But.. they didn't really get after it on old US 78 between Heflin, AL and Atlanta. Catch one of them bottling along over Heflin mountain and the GA line, he coming up on the (very few) truck lanes on a pull. Ease up on him with a 22 White of L190 IH; nudge up to his bumper, snatch it back to DIRECT and boost him on till he could catch the truck lane, let off, he take the truck lane and you keep digging up the up lane with 72 bales of cotton headed for Gastonia.
We never thought much about it, just a work around at the moment.

Y'all all need to apply a little thought to some of these situations you comment on. A wise man finds a gold mine, he brings a few nuggets back and grumbles about how hard and unprofitable it was. Gets him some drinks, his supplies and out again. Bides is time, stashes his funds, then one day catches the stage to Denver, does a week of hi life then returns and carry's on. Until one day announces he is tired of it and just moves away. Has to leave in a sturdy wagon with a 4 horse team.
It is known among those who have practiced it as Po Mouthing. You tout you are doing real well, but it appears you just can't seem to get ahead. This allows you to gain some leverage on some good things going around, as obviously you are not a threat to those prosperous fellows who are so superior.
Lots of appearances are deceiving on who is or as been making money. Competition gave me and my partners 6 months then we would be broke. At 8 or 9 months, they said a year, they can't last. After a year we no longer heard from them, they were too busy trying to regain the business we had captured.
We opened Johnson Equipment Co. (Used, rental, repair of forklifts) in Tupelo Sept 1979. We sold it to a franchised dealer in 1993. We lived well out of it and
are comfortably retired. ("I am still (just gettin by").

Oh I won't fight with anyone over Landstarve. I simply reinforce whatever someone wants to hear.

Auto parts. Totally doable. You need to live in the right place though.

There's some military stuff that pays good too, but not with that schedule.

There's stuff that pays REALLY big at Landstarve for van.

    Landstarve is a big place.

The generic wisdom found on their Facebook page will get you broke.

None of this is true rocket science. You simply need to be able to plan yourself. I'd say 40% or more people find that to be a real struggle.

It's a business. That is it. People lose sight of that or never grasp the concept.

Too many fall for the big talk of big ego's.

If you have just a little business savvy, you should do well here.

I appreciate the insight. I meant if you had any idea what “son’ing” was but thank you.
