Believe it or not, I know it may be hard for some. But I don't see rookies really screwing up, maybe an overweight here and there. Again I am always not there, but I'm there enough to see some things. Most of the cats I see screwing up, and getting caught are the outlaw or the jackhole driver anyway. The one that thinks he is slick and no one can catch him. I'll dissect the hell out of their logs and catch them doing really stupid sheet. HAd a 25 year driver the other day, 5,000 lbs overweight and license suspended thought no one was watching and he just kept rolling at the scale and never stopped. I went and got him, brought him back,he was over 85,000 lbs. His license suspended and his log was jacked up. According to his log, he ran a 230 mile trip in 1.5 hrs, another 190 mile trip in 1 hr. He had all kinds of these entries in his log book. His receipts were no where close to matching. He thought he was slick, "I don't have any toll receipts or fuel. I sent them in." However, when he opened the door his trip pack fell onto the ground and there they were. It wouldn't have mattered his average speed of 190 mph did him in. This was a 25 year driver. He also had a POS truck and trailer, both were out of service.

The rookies I see are too scared from the veteran driver's, trainers or whom ever telling them horror stories. For the most part their log's have been good, and the trucks I have crawled have been decent. On the other hand, I have had some real winner's when it come to the biggest POS. HAd a dump truck today, switched tags, unregistered, no IFTA, Class D license, no turn signals, brake lights, broken leaf spring, inoperative brakes, etc, etc, etc. This clown was the owner of the truck delivery stone to a job site.

I could write a post a day about the stupid sheet I see on a daily basis and not just from trucks, cars and people included. You wouldn't believe how dumb, and I mean dumb, stupid, or ignorant some folks can be. It must be breed into them.

Please don't get him to retire,he's one of the good ones.:yes2557:
Scales are a part of my life.I do OW/OS and for the most part the folks in the coops just want to know what it is.Some can be butt holes where I miss an axel weight by 1000lb but it's not there fault it's mine. Most of them understand that you permit off of a machines specs.
I do hate the inspections where they are out of stickers:biggrin_25510: or they won't give you a second one.I think the sticker should be the prize like in a Cracker Jack box for having your sheet in one pile.

meh, while your quoting a technicality, just try it. there are a couple of scales in Wyo. where they won't give you a hard time, there are a couple where they will have someone chase you down. Especially Torrington NB/WB.

Certain route?? Main street, it's the only designated truck route in town.

Oh great, now you tell me.

Evanston can be a PITA if you don't pay attention to the pre-pass signs/sensors.

Please don't make him retire, then he'll have more time to come in here and harass the rest of us. :biggrin_2559:

There is no reason to pull into Cajon Pass with smoking brakes. unless you have a problem. I have seen lots of trucks go thru Cajon with hot brake and that does not seem to phase the bears one way or the other.

The only scale you will have a problem at is the one you were not ready for. I have been inspected at large majority of the CA scales, Nevada, and Utah and alway found them to treat me with respect and had a professional attitude.

Keep your log book within the last duty change and actually pretrip your tractor and trailers and you can minimize the problems.

I was pulled into a roadside inspection on the island in Stockton a couple of weeks ago, and made mention that I really did not have time for this that I was right on the line for my timed delivery, he ask what I had and where it was going, Cement for TXI Concrete and he sent me on my way.

The driver that have problems at the scales usually are not ready and act like thats the inspectors fault.

BOTTOM LINE THERE YOUR UNDIES, AND ONLY YOU CAN KEEP THEM FROM CATCHING YOU WITH THEM AROUND YOUR ANKLES.

I know exactly what state you work in! I was there one time and the goofy girl driving the truck passed one of those signs, and shes like OMG ARE WE OVER 5 TONS? I kind of just rolled my eyes at her.....

But look, i'm not making any statements that aren't on the signs that ohio puts up. They say nothing about anyone entering unless they have hazmat. Of course, its kind of obvious that what they really mean is that if theres a pickup truck or car hauling hazmat, they want it to stop as well, even though it normally would not stop at a scale.

The ohio part was a technicality, but what i said about wyoming is 100% the law in wyoming. In wyo, if the sign doesnt say you have to enter, you dont. Stopped at one that didnt have the "commercial vehicles must stop at weigh station" sign, got pulled in and showed a picture of the sign, and told i dont go in unless i see that sign. Big picture on the wall too, so you know it must happen 100000 times a day. I left that weigh station with a totally WTF look on my face. Basically, they want to hassle you when you go in and when you go out, and dont care in the middle.
