I can see both sides of it although I don't agree with not tipping, because I've been on that side of it working for tips making 4 dollar an hour wage because the rest of it was made in tips... I respect your opinion, but I must tell you from my experience, if you Ever go to the same place more times than 1 . We always rememberd the people who tipped bigger than normal, and provided them first class service and would go out of the way to accommodate them. Even more memorable are the people who don't tip you, and they would get #### service and usually the ones first to complain about it... and when it came up to management voicing the customers complaint my response was always they stiffed me on the tip.. That was the end of that, on to the next one..

Although I would say it takes a special kind of person to work that industry and they are severely underpaid for what they have to put up with.. That's why I chose the more respectable service sector of truck driving :biggrin_25523: .

Me personally I probably tip to much and most would say it's a waste of my money, and one could definitely make an argument for that. But I know what it feels like to get that big tip from someone you didn't expect to get it from and it always brightened my day no matter what. So I try to pass that feeling along down the line.

Thats the thing, you agreed to work for $4 an hour. That's between you and your employer, that's your wage. Has nothing to do with me as the customer. You made my point for me. If I receive stellar service, I tip. Because that's what it's for. To show appreciation for a job well done. Not just showing up and tossing food in front of me. If you want me to part with my hard earned money, you have to earn it.

Edit: I haven't received tip worthy service in some time.

that is the reason the service is so subpar these days and finding help is impossible, is the low pay. but its comes with the territory in the resturant industry with the thin profit margins.. they cant afford to pay their employees a huge amount, and one could argue maybe they should pay more, but its just the nature of the business...they would most likely go out of business if they raise their hourly wage higher, and then you would have no resturant to eat at all.. that is why servers make their money from tips.. one could would argue they didnt choose to work for 4 dollar per hour. they chose to work for 4 dollar per hour plus tips. which is the way any resturant job goes.. the tips are the other half of the paycheck, thats the agreed upon rate when hired.. thats hows its always been. not saying its the right way to pay or the wrong way to pay, just saying thats the way it is and most likely will continue to be, and anybody who goes to work in the service sector should understand that, and so should the customers that patronize that business...

just think about it from an angle you can relate too.. you agree to haul load from point a to point b and end up getting paid the rate agreed upon, but run into problems every step of the way that you feel is not worth your effort...in trucking, your "tip" is everything going to plan and having no problems along the way.. which we know most likely is not going to happen... so when it does happen, you are probably more likely to work with that broker/shipper again vs a broker/shipper that paid the same but caused lots of problems.. that is how service people look at people who dont tip.. you dont want to work with them in the future, because its not worth the effort put in for the service you provide those customers..

i do agree with you that tipping is not always appropriate. there has been times i havent tipped somebody and i would do it in the future if i felt they were very bad at their job and didnt care.. not saying you should always tip no matter what...it seems like it is hard to find good service anymore because it takes a special person, but those special people are smart enough to go work somewhere else for higher pay so you get stuck with the imbeciles that provide #### service and could care less.. so i do understand your side as well. .. but all im saying is, its just how some people make a living and tips is the other part of their paycheck... many people dont tip and thats okay. its up to the customer to decide how to spend their money.. but if you dont, just dont ever demand great service at places you frequent, because nobody likes to do a full job for half the pay.
