it doesn't matter how many filters are in a system, which ever is closer to the tank is primary, (premier, primero, primary) and yes there's a pressure spring in the pump, but that's just for the, pump the fuel pressure regulator is in the secondary fuel filter base right under the return line that comes from the back of the head, on the previous picture the one circled on the right.

The primary filter is between the tank and the pump. It is the “first” or “primary” filter to clean the fuel. The secondary filter is between the pump and the head. It is the “second” or “secondary “ filter because it is the second filter to further clean the fuel.
When changing filters on a Cat do the filter on the frame rail. Start the engine and get it smoothed out. Then change the filter on the engine. Doing this often avoids issues with changing filters. If you ran it completely out of fuel, good luck.Oxbow and spsauerland Thank this. -
