While I understand the sentiment, that is simply not the case at my DC.
At my DC, when a driver gets his assigned truck for the week, that vehicle has been cleaned out, wiped down, vacuumed, and disinfected, The previous driver had to sign off on a check sheet and hand it in to management stating all those cleaning tasks were accomplished prior to them going home for their weekend. If the new driver finds the truck not in great shape, they don't have to accept it. If they accept it and it's not clean, well then that mess is now their responsibility. But I've seen most of our slip seat trucks, and at least at my DC, they're cleaner than my assigned truck...and I keep my truck very clean.
So yes, slip seating isn't ideal. No one is claiming it is. But at least where I work, the slip seat trucks are well maintained and cleaned multiple times a week. It goes without saying...not all work places are the same, and not every work place allows their drivers to be slobs.
Considering applying to Walmart

Why the "BEWARE"?
I think @Happily Retired gets it, judging by his above reply.
Basically...slip seating SUX--BIG TIME.

I'm staying out for two weeks in my assigned truck and all my stuff can still fit in the truck of a car. How much crap do people have that it can't be easily taken in and out of a rig?Exit310, truckdriver31, 9691Guido and 1 other person Thank this. -
Better of without them here. WM has Lowered standards enough.truckdriver31 Thanks this. -

Slip seating @ WM is no big deal when i start my shift the truck is clean enough you could eat off the floor. I`m on a 5-2/5-3 schedule sharing trucks with two other drivers and we keep the trucks spotless!!
truckdriver31 and Treputt Thank this. -
I work out of mebane NC. You would start on boarding in Smyrna. That's where I did mine. All the PA guys were there with VA and NC guys too. You drive your POV there. They reimburse gas and put you in a hotel. Plus you get a $250 ADP (average daily pay) whilst in on boarding. It's a week in smyrna, then a week at your DC, plus another week or 2 with a mentor driver. The whole process basically takes a month.
You have to live within 250 miles of the DC you wanna work out of.
I've no clue about health care. I'm retired military and don't use private insurance.
Slip seating sucks but MOST of the guys take good care of their truck and clean them good. If they don't you can ##### to the ops manager and maybe something will happen lol
Smyrna is a GM dc. Pottsville is groceries. If you go to Pottsville you will almost 100 percent for sure work nights and weekends doing meat and produce. That's what I do out of mebane. I can't speak to a possible schedule out of smyrna though as I haven't worked a GM dc yet.
We generally do a 5 on 2 off schedule. We have programs where you can get a 6/3 or a 5/2 5/3 but they're hard to get as a new guy since the schedules are given out by seniority. Each DC may be a bit different though.
Running area wise? I can't say much. I will say that if you do a grocery DC like Pottsville, it's out and back from the dc because of the reefers. Your running area will be rather small. GM guys bounce around a lot more than we grocery guys too. That's one thing I don't necessarily care for working out of mebane. We have a tiny running area. The money is good enough so it's not a deal breaker for me.
Good luck! I love it here. Beats the hell out of OTR flatbedding which is what I did before here. I can answer anything else as best as I can if you wanna know.kee1227, Plinker77, truckdriver31 and 2 others Thank this. -
