I consider myself fairly good at trip planing, but I’m looking for a way to SOMETIMES, incorporate fun stops into my route. All the trucker GPS and apps are centered around truck stops etc. I’m looking to reverse this priority order. I want to search for things along my planned route and then see if I can find a place to park nearby.

Example. I’m driving from Greenville, SC to Dallas Texas. I’d like to punch in, “steak houses, strip clubs :), grocery stores, whatever it might be…and have it show these along my route. From there plan a stop accordingly. Will it siesta work? Of course not, but sometimes the stars align.

Is there a way to do this on any GPS programs, apps etc? I know google will, but only at specific locations, not along your whole route.

I would start that trip off by parking in the dirt lot next to The Drury Inn exit 51 ion I -85 in Greenville and then walk across the street to The Whole Foods Market and get a big juicy rotisserie chicken and a bunch of other goodies and I wouldn't have to worry about stopping to eat for the next four days.

Well, I'll tell ya', while non-trucking stops are tempting, GENERALLY, you have no business taking a semi, especially loaded, to some road side attraction. 1st, they usually aren't geared to handle trucks, 2nd, most attractions are rarely on an exit ramp, and be a hassle, even downright stupid. I'm sure many of the photos MJD posts of trucker screwups, are because they were looking for something off the beaten path. If you must, drop the wagon, lock the pin, and bobtail to your favorite attractions.

Your going to have to just set waypoints as you go. Ask on here about places to park and shop

Don’t agree. I can trip plan, I always find parking. I also use an folding Ebike 25mph with a 40 mile range which really opens up the possibilities significantly.

You response implies that I’d be cramming my truck into any unwelcome fitting location. I’m not that “trucker” lol if I ain’t certain parking is good, I go to the next place. My plan would entail lots of planning and research. Just wanna try and incorporate a fun stop more often, like maybe once a week, not daily or anything.

Those exit books can be quite useful. There is an rv version that might have extra stuff mentioned.
Also semitourist.com might expand the horizon for you

I make note of roadside attractions and go see them on vacation. Very few will be available while driving OTR.
    Your working??? not out sightseeing.

You drivers crack me up. Blah blah blah with this suck it up buttercup mentality. I outdrive everyone of you with that mentality. And a hike 5 to 7 miles after my shift every single day and lift weights. Why all of you sitting in your truck eat three oversized pizzas drink a gallon of soda, smoke a pack of cigarettes and ##### about everybody else. Sorry buddy but it’s true. I see it every freaking day out here. I’m the only one out exercising while y’all sit there and work on your diabetes cancer and heart disease.. tired of it!

What part of maybe once a week didn’t you understand? What part of When things come together. Truck driving is a lifestyle. OTR specifically. We’re on the truck 26 days out of the month on average. Those of us who like to work are actually. If I want to incorporate doing something a few times a week, how do you imply I’m not out working? Last I checked we’re only allowed to drive 11 hours per day. There’s 24 of them in a day.
