Can Have a trailer axle with grease one side and the other side with oil?

    Can Have a trailer axle with grease one side and the other side with oil? I just changed the hub seal on my trailer but it kept leaking a lot of oil so the mechanic suggested to change from oil to grease on that side of the axle. I was wondering if it was legal and is it ok to drive with grease hub one side and oil on the other side.

    Grease will get hot and you will have grease seeping out at some point

    While you can, there is a reason it keeps leaking. If the mechanic you are using is unable to fix it, I suggest looking for another mechanic.

    Just patching the symptoms doesn't fix the problem.....

    It’s done all the time. Sometimes that's the only way to fix the situation. Seals not available at the time, porous or worn spindle surfaces that will allow oil to pass no matter how tight the seal is. Perfectly safe and cheaper than replacing an axle that is still just fine.

    thanks everyone for the help but yes, it was a bent or cracked spindle that's why it kept leaking even after putting on a new seal. I first got it fixed in a small shop, but it kept leaking after a day, so I had it replaced again at a different shop where they changed it to grease. The first place must have messed with it , but I was far and I couldn't get a refund smh
