See, the cattlemen keeps up to date on important things. Drivers wage rates, fuel prices, good food places, road conditions, and spirits availability.

Uncle started me out in 72 GMC 5 ton with stock racks on dirt roads— then On Adak I was the only one in the division for a while that knew anything about trucks so I got to be the designated bomb delivery boy in a Ford L9000

I believe it's best to start the hard way, then you appreciate it more when you get the easy way but know the hard way.

Ha.. U.S. Army, March 1958. Basic training at Ft. Chaffee AR. The sergeant he ask, anybody here know how to drive a deuce and a half ? We need to move some dirt. He goes on to say that is the nomenclature for the army truck over there, OD in color etc.
I can drive anything on wheels and some crawlers. Here sarge, waving hand before others jump me and I have dig, not drive...
Well, he apologizes. We do not have a deuce and a half, but we have 6 good wheelbarrows..... (Mexican draglines)
I signed on for 3 years to get a "good deal" per my recruiter. 3rd day in I realized I had made a BIG mistake.
