It's not just the truckstops selling beer cheaper.

Water only has one ingredient, the cheapest kind.
    How can this be?

I can make it on today's rates, but I don't want to make the brockers happy. I don't work more than 8 months per year anyway, so sitting is perfectly fine with me. And no, I'm not selling my truck.

Not everyone can do that. Last time rates crashed it took 6 yrs to hit bottom. Before and afterwards rates were mediocre at best. On average about what they are now. Maybe a bit less, all things considered.

    Beaver9 and 77fib77 Thank this.

    I remember the last culling.

Several of our esteemed members called for the culling of the herd, new drivers and trucks were dolts, they were going to set things right and those not worthy would be dealt with most severely.

And then to their dismay, they discovered they were not the ones that got to choose who was culled.

Then there were thousands of posts about what a great guy that guy was, what a great company that was.

    Was being the key word.

There are some blatant truths in economics that some seem to have forgotten, or just aren't paying attention to now.

Trucking, nor any other business, will continue without profit for a prolonged period of time. Lean times will wean out poorer operators, or those that gambled by borrowing far too much for equipment recently when margins were historically high.

The reasons for the phenomenal revenue and subsequent challenges may be unique, but this happens time and time again. Some will fail and others will prosper - as it should be.

Short haul dry van or flatbed unicorns always pay the most.

In every economic crash in the last 5000 years someone wins and someone loses.
All you have to do is find a way to win.
