    Walmart, Sherwin Williams and some of these manufacturing ccompanies that have their own fleets can afford to haul cheap freight. It makes it hard on the little guys.

    450k miles without a complete rebuild is lucky and is rare. I'm guessing the "I currently have 300k and it is grossing 40k+ nearly every work day" is a typo? True the sale price would be considered income but still you are putting money back in your pocket that you are not counting. 20k on a 450k pickup is what they are going for now.


    I'm sorry but a 70k trailer for a hotshot is insane. A 40k rated trailer is NOT a "hotshot" trailer. That is a Semi truck trailer. How are you getting a 40k rating without airbrakes? Hard to believe a pickup truck hauling a 40k trailer lasting 450k miles without major repairs along the way.

    Selling equipment early means you get most of your buy price back and buying new is a good way to keep your equipment new and upgraded. Waiting till it is rotted out and in constant need of repairs and maintenance is a good way to start losing money. Thats what the big companies are doing, selling the equipment the moment the warranty ends.

    There will be MANY bankruptcies this fall and across winter. It’s going to be UGLY.

    i’m already noticing things changing within the company I work for. I’m not even an owner operator. The three main yards where we do drop and hooks, are all live load now. Why? Because the warehouses arent unloading our trailers and there’s hundreds of them sitting at these 3 yards. Why? Because people have stopped buying stuff. The freight just sits there for weeks and weeks and weeks. I went from 80% drop in hook to about 20%, to now where it’s a rare thing. I’m spending 2 to 6 hours waiting to get unloaded and loaded with every load. The storm is coming. It’s almost here.

    This is true.

    Just look at Netflix, Walmart, Target earnings reports recently and subsequent stock crash.

    The consumer is cutting back on things and spending less.

    Car and housing prices went to the moon, gas went to the moon.. among other general inflation.
    People are running out of money and are struggling just to keep up with basic costs.

    For anybody wondering how much stuff people are no longer buying look at Amazon stock price for the year. There's only one reason their stock price would drop and they're not the only ones with that issue.

    Well part of that amazon price bring higher earlier was during covid more people bought stuff online.

    What is more concerning is when you look at both Amazon and Walmart together, that just shows people spending less all together everywhere.

    Understood on new equipment, agree to some aspect of it. New vehicles aren't as reliable as they used to be is one issue, especially when the parts are backordered, none the less, let's agree on that. Yes, I have a 40k rated 53 stepdeck-gooseneck on a pickup (legal definition would be a Dodge Tractor). My empty weight is 21240lbs and loaded I am typically over 40k lbs gross. A semi-trailer is typically rated around 60k or much more. My 6.7 cummins does it without much effort and with fantastic fuel mileage to boot. No major repairs, just lots of modifications to make it to what I wanted. The head was off recently for a small seep in the head gasket and the cylinder honing is still easily visible and no signs of wear. The truck will let the cap sit upside down on the cover over the fill hole and won't move, so no blow-by either. Most new pickups are at this 40k+ rating from the manufacturer and it will likely continue to increase.

    Entirely untrue, quite the contrary, I typically run around 6-7/mi because I'm hauling full TL freight on a hotshot and I only run local with the HS to stay out of E logs and I run the e-log exempt truck over the road. I do just fine, truck is paid for, the trailer cost nothing and serves two businesses and I'm buying as much bankruptcy property as I can find for cattle. I think you have my intentions misunderstood, I want to assist people new to the business rather than allowing the O/O to disappear. We are all going to lose when only large companies run all freight. I'm also trying to understand why many of these brokers think a 40ft load weighing 20k is HS and should pay 1.70 a mile. I can't believe a whole lot of guys with HS are able even to scale 20k, especially at 40ft. I think many really don't know the numbers, which is essential in this business.
