I think I read someplace that Tesla was planning on battery heaters that run when they are plugged in.
Cold weather losses would still need to be addressed in any business plan.
My business plan would include parking for December through Mid Feb. That would be with Diesel, CNG, Electric, Hydrogen, or any other power source.

I am not a fan of Tesla. Have you tried the fine folks at Freightliner? eCascadia | Fully Electric Commercial Semi Truck | Freightliner | Freightliner Truckschimbotano, JoeyJunk and Another Canadian driver Thank this.

Freightliner is using Detroit electric drive train which has a 220 mile range at best. The system to charge it has to be installed with the ability to charge the 435kwh batteries within 6 hours so that’s a bunch of power.
the quote I got from freightliner was just under $220k but the sales dweeb said that’s because of all the stuff I wanted on it.
Tesla range is being claimed at 500 miles, with a 4 hour (according to the sales person) for a recharge from 20% to full.
I talked to tesla, they said the final pricing isn’t in stone just yet but it is expected to be under $175k.
there are no pros to either truck, FL lacks the skills at their dealers to work on this truck, they made it clear the mechanics are going to be hard to find to fix a problem right.
Tesla on the other hand scares me a bit for a commercial application. They have very poor customer service for their cars - my neighbor had to wait months for a replacement panel for his model s, months and no one would tell him anything about the parts order, it was like it went into a black hole. Their myopic view of customer service has driven people to GM and ford which produces a marginal electric car.
however technically speaking, tesla is more than likely going to produce a better truck when it hits the road.Midwest Trucker, GYPSY65, chimbotano and 5 others Thank this. -
Only $175 000?!
I thought they would be in the range of $500 000. Hmm... that's a game changer.
Repairs and mechanics? Maybe there are not too many things in Tesla truck to break.
500 mile range seems good enough to do regional work. Enough miles per day, for sure.
I expected it to be a satirical thread but it seems quite serious after all.Trucker61016, Cattleman84 and chimbotano Thank this. -
They can't be honest with people about how much it'll cost now or nobody would be putting a deposit down. I'm sure they'll 250k plus when, or if, they ever actually start delivering them.Trucker61016, Accidental Trucker, Midwest Trucker and 3 others Thank this.

Yeah. And in two years when they release the Tesla Semi it'll only be two years until they release the Tesla Semi. It's always 2 years away.alds, Studebaker Hawk, Trucker61016 and 4 others Thank this.

Whats the second largest expense for a truck? Tires. With Tesla cars the average mileage on a set is 20,000 miles. Most don’t get 15. Think about that with the truck.

I know a few people who've been waiting for their cyber truck since jan 2020. Its always 2 years every 2 years.Another Canadian driver Thanks this.
