Was doing a search on where to buy this unit but now after reading all the negative posts I guess the prudent thing to do is wait until they get the bugs worked out?? I would have thought because of the history of RM and the carrier atlas's this would have been the best unit. It sounds like everyone is having alot of problems with being routed wrong and having to send units in or waiting for updates.?? bummer ....just when i thought my "new career" as a truck driver was going to be made easier LOL

Don't let the "negative" posts scare you off. The positives FAR outweigh the negatives of this unit IMHO. I've been using mine for going on 2 months now and couldn't imagine going back to life without it. If you wanna wait to get one til they get the "bugs" worked out. You will be waiting a LONG time. RM is constantly coming out with improvements and updates for the unit based a large part on feedback from drivers in the field. I highly recommend you get one. Because to quote Ferris Buehler, "It is so choice" LOL.:biggrin_25525:

Go to Dieselboss.com and read their review on truck navigation devices.

This is one of the few threads that welcomes all the pro's and con's that you the user finds.

If you read a thread with nothing but flowers and praises, it would make you wonder whom is buttering whoms bread.

I am here as the Lead Beta Tester for Rand McNally. Every driver here knows that if they post either a negative or positive post that Rand will be reading it the same or next day.

Rand does act on what you post here.

I usually monitor this thread 7 days a week and if I am off line, some of the drivers here have my phone number and will inform me of a post that needs my attention.

If you have issues, Rand will work with you to resolve those issues. I hold a CDL also, and if a driver needs help on a weekend, then I am here for them.

For example, this afternoon I got a call from a truck stop that a driver bought an TND but was without a computer. I drove 90 miles one way to get his TND updated so he was current on the version and POI\construction data updated. I even gave him a 30 minute class on the TND.

Welcome to this thread. Ask questions and you will get honest answers from the readers on this thread.

    Thanks,
    Mark

As far as the updates, I've owned the ALK 430, and now own the Garmin 465t and the TND. ALK came out with a horribly broken unit and then tried to charge over $100 for the update to fix it. Lost my business forever. Garmin has had one or two software updates since it came out, I think, with no visible improvements. The TND updates on a weekly basis if not more, both the dock software and the unit. It looks to me like they are working very hard on the unit and they seem to be the only company that even bothers to listen to us. The TND is the one with the most potential out of all of them in my opinion.

hey wing , I left Missoula on Friday and now am in SFS, suppose to get my truck yesterday but it will be down for a few days still,,many many many problems.
spent all day yesterday and today at the the yard trying to get it all wrapped up. Unfortunately it is the only avaliable truck in the whole company so they are trying to get it going good enough to not get shut down by DOT... then I will be put on list for the next available ----better truck.....

I like it alot, like said here before, it does have a few minor issues, but RM is listening to us and making changes. What other GPS company does that? BTW, I have Copilot 11 for trucks for sale is you are looking for something like that. I left a flyer in the SFS lobby by the shop
