Let me know how you like it. I love the Detroit, but I think I will have a hard time paying a premium price for basically a heavy spec cascadia. It’s a shame they discontinued the 4900.

No air lift on the rear axle, poor mans lift (chains and shut offs on front axle), adjustable height air suspension?

Unless you are hauling scrapers or articulated haul trucks facing forward I don't know if I would go with the scraper neck. I prefer a higher neck to allow more frame clearance for rougher terrain (mainly on/off worksites). I would also opt for spring parking brakes on all three trailer axles. I may not be reading the specs correctly, but it might be worth checking on.

I bet you’re right, just didn’t see it in the spec sheet. This probably isn’t very applicable to your operation but I noticed something with our bigger trailers. When lightly loaded, on the lowest neck setting I still had at least 8” of ground clearance at the front of the deck. Then with a heavier load that takes some of the spring out of the neck I had a few inches on the low hole but still 16+ inches on the high hole.

For our operation having the ability to run 4” off the ground loaded lightly would be used a lot more then 18” of ground clearance ever would. It seems like I’m always right on the edge of needing a pole car in some states.

Just my very inexperienced 2 cents.

X2 on the neck to frame clearance especially when using the forward king pin setting
I saw that about the spring break to…thought trailers had to have it on all axles.
If you have a choice go back to the old system that uses single pancakes and air pressure to apply the emergency breaks
You can dump the air tanks this way and move the trailer with something that doesn’t have air. It’s gotten me out of a bad situation several times.

D.Tibbitt, CAXPT and cke Thank this.
