I've been doing dry van for 3 years but this is my first time hailing tanker.
So I don't have sliding tandems but my tandem (trailer) axle is over weight. I've tried sliding my fifth wheel to practically zero effect in either direction.
Is there anything I can do besides go back to the shipper?
Weights...
Steer: 13720
Drive: 30520
Tandem: 35280
Gross: 79520
New to tanker, overweight tandem axles

If it's a single compartment trailer, you're screwed. You'll have to take it back to the shipper.

I've been in that situation. The way I got away with it is to tap the brakes hard enough to get the liquid surging pretty hard just before pulling on the scales. This way, when you pull on the scales, usually the scale master will give you the green light; otherwise you might sit there for 30 minutes waiting for it to calm down. You're under gross, so should be ok.

I'm hauling from ohio across 80 to iowa.
I heard rumor that weigh stations only care about gross weight for tankers but I'm not risking it. I'm hauling a smooth bore single compartment food grade trailer.
I may just go back and have some taken out if dispatch gives the green light.tscottme, Trucker61016, Boondock and 1 other person Thank this. -

Any axle can weigh 20k as long as the GVWR and the tires on that axle can accommodate the weight.nikmirbre, tscottme, Trucker61016 and 2 others Thank this.
