Since the option Chinatown suggested above (post #7) is also in Chicago--that one would be the "no brainer" choice, if I were in your shoes--assuming the quality of their instruction is indeed worthwhile--and your intended potential employment carriers accept their CDL program.

In any case--be prepared to explain/substantiate to potential carriers what you did during your year away from driving.

Hmmmmm....since nothing is really "free"...I wonder who in fact pays for the student instruction there?

Cabool, Missouri is the home of our original training academy. In fact, we have been educating and training drivers for dry van and smooth bore tanker operations for over twenty years. Our Cabool Academy has on staff two certified driver trainers and a complement of experienced support personnel. This facility trains drivers to serve American dairy farmers and other dairy and food processing customers throughout the United States.

I don't know; they haul milk all over the country from farms & ranches to processing plants.

The best answer to your question here is....call a recruiter there, and ask.

In any case--a company that will start you off in tanker, pay for/provide your meals and also your lodging...AND pay you a salary while getting your CDL...then give you a job after you get the CDL...

....is (in my opinion, at least) simply too cool an offer/opportunity to pass by. :);) :hello1::thumbup:

A regular college education does not compete with an opportunity like that. :p

YRC has schools and every 3 or 4 months the school location changes.
If you attend school somewhere such as Kansas City, then at graduation, you'd be assigned to the Chicago terminal.

Hubs has gone with Hirschbach, the training wasn't bad (from the viewpoint of a driver who really only needed the refresher to get his CDL BACK).. it might be a little thin for a brand new driver depending on the instructor you got.. Lots of hands on, but also a lot of what he saw as 'good luck figuring that out'. Some of the really green ones struggled a bit, but they ARE driving solo NOW.

We drove team for Schneider and were not blessed with a good DM or dispatch.. making the whole time miserable. That WAS however, over a decade ago, and things MAY have changed.
