Be like me and just sit there like a ####### for like 5 seconds then slowly put up to them in idle ;)

I'm team roundabout. Anything stop and go is just terrible design.

I had a buddy that hasn't worked a day in his life be a professional get hit in a car driver.

He says the easiest ones to get money are if there's say a gas station across an intersection he will take off then let off then get bumped in the ### with one blinker signal. He never got hurt doing it but would put on a show to get those fat cheques and benefits.

We call em Lucky ya know like from king of the hill.

To be fair, most "automatics" in use today are not really automatics. They are the same 10-speed manual with an air-driven X Y shifter sitting on top.

I have said this many times when the subject comes up. When I was an active driver I felt more comfortable driving a manual. There are some minor things about the auto shifts that I did not like, but during my last few years driving, I got used to them. To me, this is a non-issue.

The Volvo/Mack, Paccar, and Detroit AMT's that are part of their integrated powertrains are 12 speeds. Those are the ones currently dominating the market. Eaton also has a variety of AMT's besides the 10 speed.

Most of the early autos were 10's, though.

I should have been more careful with my comment. The 10-speed X Y shifter was what most were running when I retired 10 years ago. This part of the trucking world is not something I pay much attention to these days.

I drive a Volvo. I am not sure of other automatic trucks, but the only time I had any problems with herky jerkiness is as I was learning to appropriately apply the throttle. Nice and even throttle application always gives me nice and smooth acceleration. I think you might be a tad bit exaggerative and dramatic here. Just my opinion. But, I have only driven a Volvo at sufficient length to give a valid opinion.

The idea of driving a manual in the mountains scares the crap out of me.:p

I recently ran a 7-stop load crossing back and forth between West Virginia and Kentucky and then on yo Western Kentucky. I was on US highways and state routes delivering a Pepperidge Farm load. I can't imagine doing that in a manual. I served in the US Marine Corps, so I know my manhood is fully intact. I am scared of heights, too, so whatever.

I just watched a video of a fella taking apart a $500 Ishift control that was junk because it had a coffee spilled on it. It is a giant switch. No logic boards, just plastic and springs and wires and more plastic.

The logic is all handled by the TCU mounted on the trans itself.
