You engine might de-rate suddenly.
That's probably the cause.

I'm thinking either something is not working correctly to reduce NOx levels, or your sensors are reading incorrectly. Don't mess around with the DPF, differential pressure sensor, or 7th injector, since they're related to reducing soot levels. You're going to need someone with PTT who knows how to troubleshoot each component, or else it's going to be a guessing game.
DEF quality can be tested with a refractometer. The DEF doser can be tested by commanding it to spray with the computer and then measuring how much comes out. The EGR valve can be tested to make sure it actuates and also that it stays closed when it's supposed to. I'm pretty sure PTT can display the NOx levels at the inlet and outlet sensors, and then you determine if those values are accurate. Inspect the exhaust system for leaks, especially the weld at the flange where the DEF doser bolts into the DPF canister. At this point, if everything checks out, it might be time to replace the SCR box. You could also try cleaning the SCR box, but there's no guarantee that it will work.Forever237 and Another Canadian driver Thank this. -
Also, at the given mileage if the filter wasn't baked it should start making problems.

At around 535,000 I fueled at Loves (in WA state) and about 500 miles later first message came along: def quality is bad. Derate in 180 mins. I regrned. The problem was gone for about 15000 miles. Then it started asking regen every week or so. And this trip I did 2 days in a row.
Little update. This morning Loves Shop hooked to computer. Got bunch of codes. Interestingly, soot level dropped, but still the message there to get def serviced but no codes regarding aftertreatment.
New codes are:
Data Link MID 144 - Faulty Device or compartment PSID 201 fmi 12
Data Link MID 136 - Abnormal update rate. PSID 204 Fmi 9
Im guessing cleaning the doser (there was little carbon buildup) and regenning did the trick. New doser is on the way with with 7th injector.

When the similar truck I used to drive did that it was a mostly plugged DPF filter...

An apprentice was asked to clean it up.
He worked for 2 full days with a small pick hammer chiseling the deposits inside.
There was rock solid soot in there.
I would have thrown the whole thing out and bought an aftermarket filter.Cattleman84 and Forever237 Thank this.
