Don’t, remind me hahaha my philosophy was throw enough straps for the load under the tarp and if I had any 2 inch straps, depending on how bad probably throw 3 over the tarp (especially when I didn’t have enough bungees, biggest pita), but thank zhee lord towards the end I got better in terms of securing the tarp, I just couldn’t make it look all TMC good, for @D.Tibbitt good

 

Always used rope to secure tarps. Takes about the same time, and looks good.

 

It can be successful under the right circumstances. If u are interested i can hook u up with DSV which is where i was successful with mine. Or atleast get u in contact with the recruiter and he can answer all ur questions.. They are about as honest a company u can find. They leave u alone to do whatever u wanna do as long as u arent doing anything illegal and not turning in paperwork on time etc. They have a good program but it still aint even close to being easy... Me personally if i could do it again i would go out and buy my own truck and lease on but hindsight is always 20/20... Thr only reason i say that is because the company is going to protect themselves at all times and finacially u would spend less money doing it on ur own. But their lp program is a honest way to understand the numbers from a business standpoint without taking 100% of the risk of owning the truck because its a walkway lease. They dont tie u to a dispatcher. They have their own freight in house or u can run off the truckstop loadboard and work with whoever u want. Its 75% of linehaul and 100% fsc and any accesorial pay to ur truck.... I can only speak on their program because its what i had experience with..

I would stay away from any lp program where u are paid by the mile and u are tied to a dispatcher. That is no different than being a company driver other than ur taking all the risk and have no control of ur revenue.. Thats a recipe for disaster.

Let me know if ur interested i can get u in contact with some people there. everybody in the missoula office knows me..also i should add, u can run wherever u want. They have freight litterally everywhere. I could even get u hauling those rocks out of the quarry if u wanted to

 

Haha you tha man as usual; I appreciate your offer but with anyone I try to refrain from using any “hooks” to further my career or what have you, especially I’d hate to fudge up and inadvertently make someone look bad for putting in a word for me, but if someone speaks highly of me while at my job that’s another thing. Idk I’ll think about DSV, definitely not going back to a second rate company like Western Express; I definitely plan on tracking you down one of these days and giving you what you deserve and that’s a hat that says, “I love beaver” (inside joke). I’m undecided if I even wanna buy my own truck because as quite a few good people have told me the way to go is to buy a newer truck that’s less likely to break down, which takes a lot of money, or to buy an old one pre 200, run paper logs and be able to fix it yourself when it breaks down, which even then I’m not capable of on a large scale, much less if I break down on the other side of the country; since you make DSV sound like a good company, definitely seems like it from all the things I’ve heard, a walk away lease purchase that allows me to learn, get my feet wet and not have all the risks sounds pretty good, but definitely something I wouldn’t jump into right out the gate starting back

No problem brother ! Truck ownership is a major commitment. Not only financially but physically, mentally and with your time.. No sugar coating anything there. Your entire life will be trucking when u own the equipment. Whether driving, wrenching,paperwork etc etc it never ends. Then i decided to complicate things even further and go get my own authority ! Ha. A guy just needs a break from it all sometimes. Which is hars to come by as a business owner but i digress.

When i left dsv, they were starting to become more corporate. Putting up those corny team building banners in the office and stuff like that. They just built a brand new facility somewhere in texas and were talking about hiring company drivers.. Not quite sure what they are gonna be like a couple years from now. But they seemed to be moving away from the small family atmosphere slowly but surely... We could probably find u a good company job somewhere where u live. There should be a #### ton of jobs down there i would think
