I quit because i accomplished my goals that i set for myself, which was to learn the business and pay off the truck. Then go out on my own after that.
Was it Derek that you talked to? He is a great guy... I hope im not painting a pie in the sky picture for you, because this program is very hard. But you can be succesful with it if you work and build connections with the people there. They dont hold ur hand on anything. They basically give u the keys to the truck u pick out, and phone numbers to the dispatch office. Its up to u to figure out everything else. how much money ur gonna run for and which loads ur gonna haul and to which part of the country its all on you.. Id be willing to give u some inside information derek isnt going to give u to get u going and off to a good start. Let me know how the process goes, and if u get approved.

Higher fuel and lower rates (well about the same other than the last crazy rates boom from the backup of the pandemic) it caught up and the people that bought 150-200k worth of equipment thinking the rates would hold upCAXPT, jamespmack, cke and 5 others Thank this.

I think his name was Derek, but I don’t remember; no I didn’t get any illusions of it being easy from anything you’ve said, merely made me interested in the fact that it is a challenge

I thought it was insane even in my small town where it never got to $5 a gallon for gasoline, but diesel has been what, well over a dollar more per gallon?CAXPT, cke, MOBee and 1 other person Thank this.

I would most definitely appreciate any inside tips you could give; I was wondering where I view the available loads through the connections of the company especially
-
Well hey im living proof it can be done.
Its definatly a challenge. The hardest part is just getting going and figuring out who has the freightCAXPT, cke, Crusader66 and 3 others Thank this. -
Theres a company loadboard but its useless.. I never got 1 load off of it.. U are going to have to build relationships with brokers/dispatchers inside the company and gain trust and show u do good work, then u will start finding better freight. I do admit its a little bit of a buddy buddy network, but thats just business in general. But understand i started the same as you, not knowing anybody and was able to build a good repuation for myself. U can also run off the truckstop.com loadboard but remeber ur only getting 75% of that rateCAXPT, jamespmack, cke and 5 others Thank this.

####e, that’s definitely the hurdle to overcome; how do I even find brokers? Google? Through the company itself? Just pick up the phone and call around if anyone has any work?
-
Like i said i can put in a word for you with some people i know and i can give u some phone numbers to help u out. But basically to start out depending what area u go, if a company broker has a load in the area that needs moved they will call u because they have a software system that shows where all the trucks in the company are at and where they going.. Ur first couple loads are going to be scraps but u use this opportunity to build a relationship... Everybody that is succesful with dsv has an in somewhere.. There's plenty of people to work with as well.. Ive been a bit out of the loop because the 2.5 years i was there, the first 6 months i did otr working with different people and then i found someone i liked to work with and jumped at an opportunity they gave me early on and worked with them exclusively for the next 2 yearsCAXPT, cke, Crusader66 and 4 others Thank this.
