In a slip seat tank operation. Where I work they refuse to give us pre-trip books if there is a defect you don’t always know about it and it can be scary hoping everything is ok.
If I get inspected by DOT with no pretrip book will I be nailed to the wall ??
Is pre-trip inspection book required

What is a pre-trip book?

I’m not aware of a pre trip book but I’m not aware of a lot of thing
I get you wanting some record but if you did the pre trip inspection before you took over then it should be good right?
Doing that you should be aware of anything major and I assume the only thing you would t know is some weird quirkAnother Canadian driver Thanks this. -

You are required during your pre-trip to review the last DVIR to insure that any defects reported by the last driver were corrected and signed off by the mechanic.
Remember the OP said slip seat so there is no assigned units -or- your assigned unit is shared with another.
When Chem Leaman took over driving for Liquid Carbonic we set up 33 trained drivers working 15 tractors with alternators to power the pumps on the cyro units and in the old days of 15 hour shifts we re-dispatched the tractors every 16 hours.
Since that whole terminal was a slip seat setup, the staff was trained to collect DVIR's and re-issue copies of them to to the papers for the next guy.
We lost a grievance when the cyro guys figured the DVIR's we gave them were a shift behind.
Even with the new 'only write a DVIR when something is wrong rules; the next driver needs a signed off copy of a DVIR if the last guy reported something. Your company should have one from the last time anyone wrote up any truck on file for 90 days.SoulScream84, Another Canadian driver, snowlauncher and 3 others Thank this. -
May need to make a call to DOT. Not letting these sloppy managers put us in a bad position.RockinChair and Another Canadian driver Thank this. -
