To be precise in the US there are several cases like California v Carney where the courts have held no warrants are needed to enter and search ANY MOTOR Vehicle. The cop only needs probable cause. Something as simple as a drug dog alerting is enough. A cop can do so by saying they can smell.

I HIGHLY recommend you not get into a pissing contest with a cop once they have informed you they have probable cause. It can get you charged with things like obstruction.

I've been otr for several years and have never had my truck searched thoroughly. I did have dot stand with my door open looking inside and them profiling me. People have different experiences I suppose. If you respect them, their job, and don't waste their time. They're usually not bad. Only had a problem in one state, I'll never go back to Michigan that's for sure.

There’s a lot of states that recognize other states conceal carry card. I’m in Kansas and a lot of my buddies have a conceal carry permit in Kansas, even tho it’s constitutional carry, because Oklahoma and I think Nebraska honor Kansas CCW. They then have one for Utah because like 22 states honor Utah’s CCW card and they’re set for almost everywhere. I’m not gonna speak on what does and does happen on the road, in my eyes it’s kind of an unspoken thing. But I’d check into what the repercussions are with you’re company, and what states you’ll be in the most and weigh that against what you’re willing to try and get away with.

I have never been searched either. I did once get asked by a Virginia DOT officer way back years ago if I had a firearm. I said yes and he asked to see it. I was given the firearm back.

Handgunlaw.us is a pretty accurate source of info for state laws.

Yea this is an excellent point. When I did LTL we delivered to a lot of prisons we had to give them any maps, anything that could even remotely be considered a weapon, phones and gps before they’d let us through the sally port.

I've had the truck searched at chemical plants, when I pulled hazmat tankers.
Never happened when pulling reefers doing 48 states.

I made a delivery at a Federal Prison in PA back around 2004. They did look under my vehicle and just did a glance through my tractor. Because I was at a high-security Prison they never took their eyes off me. I was asked after I got unloaded if I needed to go to the restroom etc. Then they looked in my trailer and closed it. They again looked inside my cab and under the rig. I went through almost the same thing back in the 90s at Camp Lejeune.

I've never had the cab searched. I did the trailer though as they inspected when I was overweight.
