The problem with the 2+ years is that it has to be recent. I could have 20 yrs but if it's not recent, within 3 yrs, you're considered 0 experience. We also don't know when the truck prices will come down and when the freight market will stabilize.

Not to highjack this thread, since, the OP said he's tired of being a company driver, if someone doesn't want to be a company slave for peanuts, the best time to start is now, otherwise, you're delaying the time that is required to be put in to owning that truck and building your business.

As far as going through SFI as OP asked, I shall find out how that goes but still think it will be the same as going through the dealer, cost wise at least.

The problem with that statement is if you're considered "zero experience" you wouldn't be qualified for that lease job either.

Just because someone is tired of being a company driver doesn't mean fleasing a truck and being on the road to bankruptcy just to be an owner operator is a better option.

Having huge overhead in a bad trucking market is never anything anybody should do.

What are drivers averaging for all miles currently? Are any of them posting that?

And right now would be that time.
    It's just not good.
I did it when it was average and did well.
But I couldn't recommend anyone doing it now.
Give it a year or so and let things calm down.

the guys that were bragging about grossing 10K a week have disappeared……

the ones that post now are like 6-7K a week and they don’t give the mileage…..

my guess would be $2.20-$2.50 all in …..

How are they way above $2 all miles including deadhead and giving up 35%?
Not sure I can believe that.

Truck prices are down some, but they're never going back to where they were before Joe Bananas took over.

There are very few low mileage used trucks available.

I recommend to you or anyone else on this forum seeking serious advice, that when you find some you might take, you qualify the person giving said advice.
