The simple answer is if they cab figure out how to make a truck drive itself. Then they can figure out how to get it to secure its own load. Now i have given lots of thought to robot trucks and had the same argument about how it will do the job of open deck. But it will be done. Eventually

Yeah but think of how efficient it would be without the presence of humans to cause problems every step of the way.

If a strap breaks in route will robot truck know and know to resecure the load on its own?

If bungies on a tarp break in route and tarp is coming loose how will robot truck resolve that?
Or if load cuts big hole in tarp in route will the robot know and be able to patch it in route?

We'll have men on Mars before a robot can do all that.

If any of that is happening to you. Then you are doing something wrong. That stuff doesn't just randomly happen. It happens because you are careless with your securement and protection.

They'll just hire people to secure it. Like lumper. No need to get the robot to do it.

All it needs to happen is one time.
One time a load falls off a trailer and its all over for robot flatbed trucks.

If you lose your load because 1 strap breaks. You weren't secured in the first place.
