Do they use that same machine or a slight variation of it to lay fiber-optic cable? We moved one of those but it belonged to somebody else and it was a couple of years ago.

CAXPT, cke and D.Tibbitt Thank this.

Back when I had a purpose in life, I had a customer that laid drain tile.. Cleveland wheel trencher with 12' wheel for the large main lines and a Fiat-Allis D-8 sized tractor with a plow for the small lines. The plow tractor had a spool and hopper on it for gravel. The crew kept drain pipe on the spool and a small loader kept the hopper full. It laid the small pipe 4-6' down with the gravel perfectly enveloping the pipe. Amazing and they laid a LOT of pipe in a day. Eventually the A/C got replaced with a D8L and later with a D9N. The old trencher with an old pony motor Cat engine labored on. Everything was tall, had to remove 2 buckets on the trencher to get to 14-8". Didnt have cameras in our pockets back then so only pic I took were to show my drivers where
the trencher had to sit on the trailer.

Late 70's early 80's we had a contract to move a D8H with a ripper type plow that could rip 6" or 8" pipe down to 7.5ft and was laser and primitive computer controlled. They had a D7 that was on site to assist the 8 on deep pulls in clay soil. The advance man would map out the tile route and use a Case backhoe to dig the catch basins. Then Leo and I would move the 7 and 8 into the field and they would tile for up to 3 days before calling us back to move again, if they couldn't walk to the next field.
The 8 moved on a 16 wheeler with a 8 wheel jeep and the 7 with the small ripper and winch needed a triaxle.

I haven’t ever seen one with a wheel for that purpose just a plow but still looks kinda similar. this particular machine has also been used to lay pipe for the water district a couple times. He’s got a extra long boot for it that allows a stick of the slide together water pipe to be assembled as it moves forward. It makes the machine a two load move though.

There’s one d8 setups around here. He has his own transportation though so I have never moved it. Maybe someday.

I did a thing and switched companies. I turned in the W900 and went back OTR. Now I’m driving “The Great Pumpkin”.
I loaded this in Charleston SC headed for NY. Since NY won’t let me travel after noon Saturday I’ll be camping out in PA until Monday morning.

Just some free, unsolicited advice. Better figure out something for your front plate. Covering it with your banner will get you a ticket. Lots of states will look up your permit by your front plate as you pull on the scale.
