Or they're the ones following the traffic laws. Is it entitled to use your green light when cross traffic is backed up?

I was in the backup on I 40 in AR today. I popped off US 70 and took a loop around town on a truck route that I knew about. Moved me 3 miles ahead in line. Was I entitled to route myself around traffic? Was it appropriate for the tanker to straddle both lanes to stop me from running up in the right turn lane?

No need to respond. He would have you believe following the law is entitlement. I guess super trucker vibes.

It's always classic to call someone an idiot but can't seem to spell idiot correctly in the process of doing such a thing.

the original post has the recommended merge procedure as outlined by the Minnesota Dept. of Transportation.
It, by the way is very similar to many other states, some of whom have written it into statute and is enforced occasionally by their State Police.

What i find absolutely fascinating is there have been at least 4 or 5 other methods proposed by drivers in this thread, even to point of name calling for not acknowledging "the best practice"

That is one of the reasons why most construction merges will never be smooth and efficient.
    Hence the term "Independent Driver"

Heading back through Billings tomorrow, it will be interesting to see if anyone is reading all the signs yet or if I’ll have the lane to myself again.

I tell you. Zipper does work. Except when you get some super truckers who want to keep people from moving up in that lane. I was cruising along one time. In the empty lane. Planning to politely merge at the time the signs said. "start merging." But another trucker got upset that I wasn't already merged and inn the 2 mile back up. So he decided to get over in front of me and keep pace with the stopped lane. That is about stupid. I won't say what I did. But I was sure not to stay behind him being an a hole.

    In this thread:

    - the zipper is a dumb idea that lib'ruls cooked up
    - actually, truckers invented it 40 years ago
    - but it won't work anymore because truckers today are worse
    - funny, the truckers playing traffic cop with the disappearing lane are causing it to fail
    - the zipper only works with 100% buy in

I guess the conclusion is, don't even try to improve things.

So true. I got that the other day in phx. Going west on i10 is construction everything merges to the left lane. Its all backed up for miles, i just cruise the empty right lane all the way to the merge point where traffic speed picks up and am able to merge without ever hitting the breaks or making someone stop for me... But i heard about it on the cb from the supertruckers who think they own the roads

Honestly it could work. Except for human nature. If everyone was courteous and merged every other car/truck. Rather than "I need to get ahead of everyone else. It'd be fine.
