Should driver A sit at his green light or take his right of way?
Driver A is in the right hand lane doing his max of 65 in a 70 mph zone. Sign says right lane closed in 5 miles. At what point should he move over?
Now say both lanes are doing 65, with medium traffic density. At what point should drivers start merging?Another Canadian driver Thanks this. -
This is exactly the mentality that gets created by the early merger.
Now you have backed up one lane and its line is getting long with an empty lane beside and you get upset and think I am using it to get ahead with a merge point a mile or so ahead.
Fact is if I don't use it traffic at the tail end gets backed up even farther.
Now as one tried to use funnels for an example, you now have 2 or 3 funnels with a separation causing all kind of confusion because this one thought this and the other thought that.[/QUOTE]Another Canadian driver Thanks this. -
The matter should be settled now, I hope.PaulMinternational Thanks this. -
If traffic patterns dictated that everyone should be in one lane miles before the closure there would be signs saying lane ends merge now, not lane ends x miles ahead.gentleroger and Another Canadian driver Thank this. -

Your definitely not doing all the math based on that statement. I wish I could do with you what I did with my boys and take you to a construction zone with a place to look over a few miles of highway in the early morning and observe how traffic starts backing up as the day goes on. You would be surprised at what really happens when one lane starts backing up quickly because early merging is so rampant.
How many times have you come upon one lane at an extremely slow pace ( point of coming out of high range) and have one or two lanes still moving without a construction or lane closed sign in sight yet? Why do you think that happens? Do some math and get back to me OK!
Try to tell me it doesn’t happen and I will download a years worth of dashcam video that proves it happens on a regular basis. It is also one of the Causes of people rear ending others. Ever notice how we have so many fender benders just before you encounter the construction signs?
In the past week I saw at least 5 with absolutely nothing in the area between the sign stating road construction lane closed x miles ahead.
You don’t have to be a rocket scientist to figure this out!Another Canadian driver Thanks this. -
