How about just dont go west of i35 because all the freight out there going back east pays terrible.
If you get $5-$6 a mile to go out there then okay maybe it's worth it then but good luck getting that.
Are we owner operators really stuck around 2 bucks a mile?

The lines about how we like our women in this thread have been a lot more informative and entertaining to me than the arguments about the end of the world and how everyone thinks they have the other guy's business figured out. I'm not calling names here, we all do it somewhat. What makes us happy, successful and independent is the freedom to make our own choices.
Example: I've seen lots of really hot supermodel types with a goofy, worthless guy that really makes my question why and lots of successful guys with all of their #### together that have absolute basketcase wives. I'm going to skip the physical descriptions because it ain't a good idea in general.
My point is most of us are getting by.Last edited: Aug 28, 2022

2 things:
Dude deadheaded 2000 miles for free. So he made nothing a day.
Thing #2, when I had my truck I would go anywhere there was a paved road. The deal is, you gotta know going in what it's like going out.
Rates out of Florida used to be in the $1 range. Well, that's cool if you're getting $3 on the way in. It works out to $2 round trip.Sirscrapntruckalot, ProfessionalNoticer and JoeyJunk Thank this. -

One of the few things in California that is actually cheaper than just about anywhere else, and they do a phenomenal job.
I knew going in that it was going to be a roll of the dice to get something immediately back out heading east and because I'm a gambling man, I decided to take that chance. Sometimes ya hit other times ya strike out.
The money I blew on fuel heading back would have been money I spent towards polishing in the midwest anyhow.
I spent the weekend in Vegas and enjoyed it.
Sure I could have bounced around California or the other western states until I was able to finally get something going east that paid halfway decent but I wasn't interested in doing that.
Ya, I could have stopped over in Gypsum, Colorado and grabbed a 48k/lb 8 foot tarped load of wall board going to BFE Nebraska for $2/mile but I'm not desperate.
Maybe I could have got something in Kansas working my way back, but I didn't.
At the end of the day, I pay the note on this Pete I'm driving, pulling the wagon I own. I'm going to do what works for me not what some guy that's done a fleece purchase through Schneider thinks. I have the financial backing to do what I did, If other folks are in a different situation that me I can't help that. I'm doing me.Siinman, JoeyJunk, PoleCrusher and 1 other person Thank this. -
We have regular loads going to Denver that pay decent. When I take one and then bounce 600 miles to my house am I saying no to cheap freight? Or am I doing something that benefits me because it makes it easy to go home? Did me leaving one load sit for someone else to grab affect the rates at all?
Versus when I take a load to Denver and get a load back out because I don’t have plans to go home on that trip. Am I hauling cheap freight because I took a load out of Denver? But what about my running mile average for the whole round because our rate going in is good?
As far as girls, I don’t mind a rebuilt top end, as long as it’s not on my dime. LolProfessionalNoticer, Siinman, JoeyJunk and 2 others Thank this. -
