Has anyone here been to Swift’s Memphis trucking school? They’re willing to bus me up there from Florida, and I was wondering if I should take them up on the offer.
Swift school in Tennessee?

Ask to be assigned to the refrigerated division. Florida is an excellent state for refrigerated trucking.
Where are you in Florida; I've lived there in the past.

I’m waiting on Cypress Truck Lines to get back to me, they have a school near Tampa which sounds less sketchy than being bussed to Memphis. I’ve been living on savings for the past 11 months so I don’t know if anyone BUT swift wants me with that employment history.Boondock Thanks this. -
I think Swift has a terminal in Lakeland.
I'd tell the recruiter you don't want dry van; that's my opinion.
I pulled refrigerated for 18 years and no complaints. I wasn't with Swift.
You'll make more money pulling refrigerated because there's more miles involved.bryan21384, Boondock and WallyWallyWorld Thank this. -
@Six9GS works for Swift and will tell it like it is.

Lots of produce pickups out of the Everglades heading all over the USA.

Even reefer trailers can pull dry van loads. I've hauled ceramic tile out of Texas to Florida.
Juicy-Juice is dry van, but you'll be picking that up in reefers at a place just off I-4.
Several places you'll haul orange juice out of.
Hauled tomatoes out of Florida to California, then pickup another tomato load in California heading to Florida. I was told it's two different types of tomatoes.
Hauled a load of paint from Ohio to California, then reloaded canned beans heading to El Paso, Texas.
Get the hazmat endorsement; it'll come in handy pulling reefers. That paint load required hazmat endorsement.Last edited: Sep 2, 2022

I live in Memphis and I see thise Swift students all the time. Learning to drive a truck in Memphis will definitely teach you to be on alert as crazy as those fools drive. I'd take the offer, like Chinatown says, go reefer. You could probably do well pulling dry loads but reefer is where it's at. Memphis being a trucking hub will be good for schooling. Lots of drivers, and students of the game there. You probably can't go wrong with Cypress either.
Boondock, Chinatown and WallyWallyWorld Thank this. -
