What type of truck/trailer is best for my situation?

    I have a 2018 KW T680 with 385k on it and warranty until December. Along with a 2019 Wabash fully loaded spec dry van that id sell. (As an example)

    You really need something along those lines IMO as your first rig. It’s very easy to have down time, then lose the driver, lose revenue, etc and your business be done before it really got started.

    That setup your looking at ~150k and that’s fairly conservative but probably doable. The hard part is knowing the history and maintenance program of the truck/trailer unless you have an inside connection to a seller.

    I’ve never met @Midwest Trucker other than on the phone and this forum nor do I know anything about what he has for sale
    But for as long as you’ve been on this forum you probably read a post or two of his and should be able to tell that he seems legit and I’d take a hard look at anything he might have for sale or advice to give

    Do you have a good driver available for this job? What would you do if he quits after few weeks?

    That’s going to be his biggest problem, he has to make sure that driver is well paid and well rested to do the work all the time. He can’t depend on a marginal driver and if he has a pool of them, rotate one into the spot a day or two every few weeks to keep the driver from becoming complacent.

    That is my number one priority right now. I don't have a driver lined up currently. With my estimated margin, I have built in the ability to pay a driver $.65-$.75/mile and could add some wiggle room to that if needed. I should have been more detailed in my OP, my agreement with this shipper is to do UP TO 50 loads with them a month (if I were to have the capacity), basically allowing me to pick the ones I want and they'll cover the rest with their current broker (pretty sweet deal). I've been toying with the idea of finding a quality carrier and leasing on my truck with them, then either having them fill it with a driver or find a driver myself, driving down my insurance costs. The benefit to the company I lease onto would be they'd get access to my shipper and priority on their loads. What are your alls thoughts on this strategy?     If you do a contracted freight, do percentage for the driver.
