I'd take a pay cut car hauling before I would ever bump another dock. Been there done that for over 20 years hopefully won't ever have to go back I don't care what it pays.

I second this statement Mike. Fortunately I don't have to load anything anymore, just drive new Cottrell's to their new owners or back to our dealership when I feel like driving at all, but if I ever had to go back to driving full time it surely would not be as a door swinging dock bumper. I have a friend that is always complaining about how much truck driving sucks but he insists on doing the same type of freight no matter where he works, he is always hauling grocery loads or refer products.

But I digress, that is the beauty of this business in that there is a seat for every arse out there and one driver's idea of hell is another's paradise.

Is the problem the contracts that URS signs with the car manufacturers is too cheap to start? So Jack Cooper doesnt make enough money and the car-hauler doesnt either?

Not everyone wants to work for Jack Cooper or URS. There’s other Companies that pay a good rate with good equipment. Just have to look for them and be willing to work.
Seriously Car Hauling isn’t a Monday through Friday weekends off, holidays and your kids baller recitals off and expect you’re going to make $150k as a Company Driver job.

Late to the party. The way our company has revived our driving pool is to pay us hourly. It’s brought out a lot of seasoned veterans who were too tired to have to “ pay dues” at a new company all over again. We are no longer rushed. If the dealership won’t accept a night drop it no longer ruins our whole day. We have time to fully and throughly inspect and load leading to less claims. We now have a waiting list of guys trying to get in , instead of having to place ad’s

How much are drivers being paid per hour? Are hours tracked by the elog?

Last question.. are drivers paid strictly on the 13 hour clock or is your company also paying extra or hourly for the time spent sleeping on the road?
