Nothing wrong with those numbers. My next spec will be looking like that and even considering doing it earlier than before. Will wait and see how things pane out in the next 1 year or 2.

Yeah, honestly man I’m fairly blown away. It’s always nice when things work out better then expected. That OTR truck did 1200 miles at 8.0 and the. That additional 2300 at 8.6 or whatever it was. 35 to 3600 miles in 5 days and to be that high is incredible to me. And he’s still coming on… back home.

This regional truck just doing his thing in the high 9’s… honestly makes me excited about things again. Easy get get down.

Yes sir. I have been doing. a lot of research here the last 6 months and really have a decent plan on the next truck. I tried to change this one but they said it was too late on the order. I almost traded places with someone else to get it done and prob should had done so. Kind of kicking my self for not doing it. But I wanted out of my old truck before anything else happened to it. If I can ever get any money from that transmission I may end up using that to order a new truck early and trade this one or sell it.

You did the right thing moving on. Nothing is ever going to be perfect. If you can run this one until the first sight of the next upswing and then order the next one before anybody else catches on and you’ll hit both the upswing in used prices as well as the top mpg when things are on the way up.
I know you have the feel for the market and truck now. It’s a learning thing and your primed to take even further advantage. You got this and are doing great.

As much as I can appreciate these 8-9 mpg figures it will be interesting to break down the savings against a old premission paid for truck with todays inflated purchase prices and added insurance costs .

Not totally sure. Obviously gotta buy DEF but it’s nominal. However, it’s not too far off. Kinda like how people argue about how many loads are posted on DAT or not. You see patterns and if the pattern is favorable then that’s what truly matters.

Old trucks break, no doubt. As far as insurance who cares tbh. For me it’s negligible. I’ll take a new truck any day over a broken down truck.

For example I have an owner op with a 2013 that’s probably ran 2500 miles in the last 30 days. Waiting on mechanic, then gets worked on; then mechanic does it wrong, wait on mechanic again, hope it works this time, etc

I always let him drive one of my trucks but since being full of drivers that doesn’t happen anymore. My guess, he probably is gonna struggle. Nobody makes money on 2500 miles inside 30 days.

You won't find drivers for old trucks. They have been spoiled in the last few years and want to drive only new equipment

I can appreciate that, I’m thinking the old time O/O hanging on for the next 10-15 years before he heads out to the corner in the field.

My quote wasn’t really aimed at small fleet owners as you but one truck O/O though I do believe these high equipment and subsequently higher insurance costs will affect the bottom line in the long run.
