According to my server at the Petro in San Antonio, all of the Iron Skillet restaurants are closing down and will reopen as other restaurants. She said San Antonio will re-open as a Black Bear Diner after about 4 months of construction.

I'm just glad that these truck stops will still have full service sit-down restaurants.

Iron skillets are tire and old, now I love me some black bear diners.

A significant number will also be converted to IHOP. Further notes for TA/Petro include a strategy to introduce a really comprehensively revised loyalty program as at the end of this year and into the next. Also the 42 remaining franchise locations will open by the end of 2024.

This should help keep the restaurants open as they'll attract diners who aren't truck drivers. I don't think that the Iron Skillets and Country Prides are bringing in too many people from town. I'll definitely hit up Black Bear Diner. Not sure about IHOP. I've never been to one and I figure it isn't much different from Denny's.

Neither sell tacos, so I don't frequent them often. When I do though, I generally enjoy both places. IHOP isn't bad, nor is it great. Denny's is where you go after you been out drinking all night and need some food. lol. It's like trying to figure out the nicest guy in prison. Sure, he's nice, but it's still prison

IHOP did get trolled pretty good a few years back for changing their name briefly to International House of Burgers.

No big loss. Quit eating there several years ago. Lousy food and lousy service. Never heard of Black Bear.

It looks like they're only in the western half of the U.S. The one close to where I live always has a lot of people sitting outside waiting to get in on the weekends so I figure they must have good food. The TA in Barstow has one, also.

There's one of the original ones not far from here. The food has always been pretty good. Nothing fancy but nothing too expensive either.
Kind of a couple of notches above Denny's.
