I'm probably on the younger end of the spectrum and I don't doubt it'll happen at some point but I'll likely be retired by then so who cares.

And you are missing my point. I never said it won't happen. It's just not going to happen in my lifetime, or even my daughters. It will take infrastructure changes for it to happen. That's not a guess, that is a fact that if you read experts in the field, instead of marketing, all agree on. As there are pot holes I've been driving over for over 10 years, infrastructure changes will be very slow in coming.

It doesn't matter how much the technology side improves, it still requires a component (infrastructure) that will take decades to even start changing.

Ehhh on the car thing I’ll just get a diesel pickup. Diesel is going nowhere for decades because of the logistics industry and biodiesel.

I’m 26 and used to do semiconductor engineering. This #### is happening eventually. Whether it lives or dies is based solely on cost and how hard they are to repair. However the money making loads e.g. hazmat, oversize, high value, P&D, etc are going nowhere. Hell the pay might actually increase because drivers won’t be able to start driving in van anymore. Class A flatbed and food grade tanker will be the new entry level.

You are entirely wrong. If one is so inclined. You can take a free ride in a waymo self driving taxi here in Phoenix az... they don't have a driver in them at all... fully autonomous.. To say the tech will never be here your lifetime and mine is ridiculous because it literally is already here.

    They look something like this.

You can also find the waymo self driving trucks and tusimple self driving trucks here. As well as the Nicola electric trucks driving around here. There is a lot of tech down here. if u live in PHX this is a everyday occurance seeing these things.

And again, those are are on very well defined map. Outside that defined map they are useless. This is honestly no different than the automated carts GM uses in their plants to move parts around, and have been using for 20 years.

You say well defined maps don't matter, but sorry they do. Once it gets away from the well-defined map it's, again, useless. Oh sure there are gimmicks around but all they really are is just a train track on the road. They are following a very very well defined route that they don't deviate from to get to where they want to go and if something happens they stop until someone can fix it.

Wasn't there a problem recently where like half a dozen self-driving cars ended up on the same street corner, glitched out and blocked traffic until the imagineers showed up to get them out of the way?

Also, folks really need to watch Maximum Overdrive. Its not a stretch for something like that to come true these days.

Lol you say the tech doesn't exist. I'm showing you it does because I've seen it with my own eyes and will continue to see it... you can live in denial the rest of your life... that is unfortunate that somebody would chose to live that way, but I think most truck drivers just don't care about this technology because they will be out of the industry by then... but for some of us that won't be the case.

Several times actually. Once in, I believe, Phoenix where someone was gaming the system to send all the cars to one place. Another one is San Francisco where the cars like to get stuck in a specific dead end street.

A couple of vehicles traveling around isn't level 5 self driving though. It's level 3.5 at best.
    It's level 5 that I'm talking about.And level 5 won't happen without infrastructure changes.
