Yup. I thought we had this settled but I guess not. As long as everybody keeps being civil and doesn't let the thread become a brawl with personal insults and snarky comments it can stay.
So far so good.

I’m more concerned with how much you were shaking drawing that picture. You need a drink and maybe some Valium.

Same thing as here. You slow/stop on Elm, wait for the driveway or road to clear and then you turn. The 10 cars behind you? That's their problem not yours. If they can't go around safely, they can wait.rockeee, Long FLD and God prefers Diesels Thank this. -

AMODELCAT wrote this: "I'd say you're 100% wrong if the car was already stopped there. It's on you to make sure the road you're turning on to is clear. It's not on the car to back up out of your way."
Long FLD wrote the following: "If there is no oncoming traffic [on Elm Street], I'd swing out and turn and make the car back up, provided there is only one car on the cross street."
Clearly this contradicts what AMODELCAT wrote. Long FLD said he would make the car back up. AMODELCAT said "It's not on the car to back up out of your way", which means the onus is not on the car to back up out of the semi-truck's way. -
So...I personally would not have the car back up. I don't like to make people accommodate me. Personal preference.
Being hourly and in a daycab, my options are plentiful. I can sit and wait the situation out...sometimes this is fine, if there's absolutely no traffic around. But if I think it's likely a car is going to come up behind me, I'll buttonhook.
Now regarding the turn itself, if absolutely nobody is around, I'll buttonhook to where I'm WELL past the yellow line and crank the wheel hard to the right so I'm entering the lane before I even get to the yellow car.
If that car needs to back up for me to make the right turn, though, I'm waiting before I start my turn. -
