I'm looking to pick up some J plates for my trailer but I'm confused on which ones to get. I see some that claim for strap hooks and others for chains. Don't they make a single style that can work for chains and/or hooks?
According to Tarpstop the first picture is for hooks and the second picture is for chains. Why can't the hook style also work for chains? What am I missing?

Also, the 1" lip is the important thing i beleive, theyre all more or less interchangeable, and tarpstops are most expensive, mytee has reitenour plates for 1/2 the price

Beats me as to what makes that much of a difference on older macs
If i were me, id load next to a guy with a reitenour and just test fit their plate.
Outside of that, maybe a pic of your current track (and plate if you have one)Last edited: Sep 28, 2022

You can use chains on either style. I will say l've seen more of the strap style ones bend over time. That's with dedicated steel haulers hauling multiple loads every day though. Doing generic flatbed work they would be fine.
