I know this has been discussed before(notarps thread comes to mind) but I think it deserves another discussion.
Im still amazed at how some drivers can be so inconsiderate of others. Im young and havent been driving long, but I know better than to block another truck in. I have never done it and never will. It shows a complete lack of respect for other drivers. I understand some truck stops in high traffic areas can fill up fast, but why in the world would you deliberately block in another driver? What makes you think that is ok? I dont understand. Please enlighten me.

Longbed, this type of ignorance isn't limited to trucking, it rears it's ugly head everywhere. I've gotten to a point in my life where I do my damnedest not to let it ruin my day. For me, folks who do inconsiderate things fall into 1 of 3 categories: First category: They truly are ignorant - believe it or not I don't mean that in a nasty way. Point is, some people simply do not have the mental capacity to understand they might be inconveniencing another person. Their thought processes are limited. God bless 'em one and all! Second category: This category of people are those who simply had a "brain fart". They had no intention of causing someone else to be inconvenienced. They simply goofed - I've done this more times than I can count. I'm not an uncaring person - I just have "brain farts" from time to time. Third category: These are the self-styled, self-important folks. The true a--holes! You gotta learn to tolerate these people too. Not worth a having pizzing match with them....just gets your bowels in an uproar and raises your blood pressure. Not a good emotional state whether you're driving 80,000 lbs or a minibike!

With truck drivers just like anywhere you get people from all walks of life. Some people were just never taught courtesy and respect.

I have seen one driver get beaten to a bloody pulp for blocking a fuel island for over half an hour. This was a high traffic, low parking capacity rathole in New jersey. He got his fuel, didn't move his truck, went in, talked on the phone, shopped, ate and nonchalantly walked back to his big name company truck 30 minutes later like nothing happened. When confronted he tried to get ####y. I will also say he was not of the American persuasion. Nerves are already fried and shot in places like this. I thought his teeth were going to get knocked out the back of his throat. One big mountain of a man picked his up by his shirt and pounded his jaw a good three times while another kicked his backside and ribs. took less than 30 seconds. Funny how the harder you pound on some people the better their English becomes. He crawled into his cab bloody and humbled, bet he doesn't try that again for a long time.

Very good points! I agree about not getting all bent out of shape about it. I learned that early on because it caused me to hate life 24/7. I had to wake up a driver this morning and get him to move. It was painless and I even gave him a thank you wave after he moved. But still......grrrrrr! :biggrin_25513:

Hell,I got a slap on the hand once for NOT blocking the fuel island.I drove my deuce from Alabama to Indiana in august and stopped to get some fuel.Got around 2/3s of a tank of fuel, paid and proceeded to pull straight across out of the way onto the dirt.I moved cause there was a truck behind me and I still needed to dump around 15 gallons of Used motor oil and vegi oil in to top off.Well,a driver ask me what I was doing and I said topping of my tanks and he told me not to do it over here again that I am only to do it over at the pumps. Some times you can't win for losing.

I think it's a new generation of drivers, the same ones that flash their bright lights at you when going around them on the road if they do anything at all, us old drivers will be retired soon and that's what will be left.

Truck drivers always talk about four wheelers until they get into a truck stop. Then they talk about truck drivers.Truck blockers come in at number three for me.I always parked in parking spots so the fuel island was about the only time I got blocked.Number one on my list are the drivers that won't or can't back up and will pull head first into a spot but are also taking up one or two more because of their trailer not being straight.I see this a lot in heavy traffic truck stops which makes it worse.Number two are the drivers that keep added to a row after all the spots are fulled..These guys will park and park and park at the end of rows to the point that you can't make the turn around the end of the row.I guess they don't like their hoods. These are the type of drivers that block me in most. The row I'm in will be 90 degrees from their row and they are right in front of me so that I can't get out with out taking the hood off of the truck next to me.

I had wondered about some folks pulling straight in and not backing in. Isnt it hard and dangerous to back out in the morning? I could see maybe if its the last spot and your tired, but you are creating more work for yourself later...
