Navistar, Inc senility

I’m assuming this recall involves the A26 engines. This would be the second time in about 2 years that there’s been a recall due to connecting rod issues. Previously it involved bushing material in the connecting rods.
I personally wouldn’t recommend an International if I could help it but if you have to get one I would get one with a Cummins!

 

Need to get away from this proprietary crap and go back to having more options than just the turd the manufacturer's offer and the turd that Cummins builds.

 

We probably could if the EPA wasn’t cracking down on emissions!

Why do you think Caterpillar got out of building new truck engines?? They saw the writing on the wall when emissions regulations started coming down hard on manufacturers!

 

The story I got from one of the dealer's upper folks was it wasn't worth it to Caterpillar to support truck engines anymore. They apparently only accounted for a small, single digit percentage of revenue. We didn't even touch truck engines when I worked there, they all got sent to the truck dealer down the street.

Besides, off highway emissions are the same as on road now. Its not like they avoided it by any means.

They knew emissions regulations were getting tighter and more difficult for their engines to pass,that’s why they got out. The initial issues they had with their Acert engines was proof of that!

 

It’s a good story except that their equipment engines all have def and everything on them now too. So not sure why they couldn’t have done that to truck engines other than it wasn’t worth it to them.

When I was flatbedding there were a few Cat dealers in the west who stopped working on truck engines. They’d do an overhaul, the owner would put a hot tune in because he needed 800hp, then he’d try and get warrantied when his engine didn’t last. Wheeler Cat in SLC was one of the first big shops to stop servicing trucks that I remember and that was back around 09 or so.

 

Have a look at the stamps on John Deere tractors.

Made In China.

Now how, and who made that happen?

That’s so you know to put the throttle to the floor to make sure you window the block when it all cuts loose.
