Wouldn't it have just been quicker and easier to call the number on the back of the crossing and get rail traffic stopped?

    O.Henry, D.Tibbitt and Kyle G. Thank this.

Not enough time from the time the truck got stuck to the collision. It takes a mile for train to come to a complete stop, that’s if the train went into emergency!

How much time was wasted trying to unchain and detach the neck? For a skilled lowbedder that's going to take probably at least 10 minutes to loosen the binders and get the neck apart.

That’s if he was skilled to begin with and even then at that point the collision was inevitable. He probably had less than 5 minutes!

If I didn't take any time to mess with the chains, I could break the neck off in less than 5, I bet even less if I wasn't too particular about dragging the neck and just left the neck support stowed. When I was running pipeline repair jobs. I could pull up on the roadside, drop the deck, take off the binders, and get the trackhoe off the deck in about 5 minutes, the trailer had a well in the middle that all the chains and binders would get put into. The main thing we were looking at was minimizing time spend on the side of the highway. We were dropping equipment off on some weird locations on narrow 2 lane highways and FM roads in TX... the less time spent on the shoulder (if there was one...) the better.
