If your are out on the road 7 days=168 hours and you bring home $800 that is $4.76 an hour. Numbers don't Lie. This is what no trucking Co. will tell you.

So.....Do you get paid for every hour of the day and night whether on or off duty when you work local?
Answer: No!
Then why should you expect to be paid for every hour of the day and night when you're on the road?
Answer: You shouldn't!
You seem to think that you ought to be paid to...Sleep, Shower, Eat, Hang out and watch TV and all of the other things that you do do on the road when you aren't working....That's ridiculous!Wiseguywireless, TruckPreacher, Blue Screen and 7 others Thank this. -
Huh, since we are restricted to X numbers per week(70hrs)...... $800/70 hrs =$11.42/hr well, to each is own...I understand though. I just came off the road to a very good local job that I was lucky enough to find(timing was everything).

Do what I do....write down the time of day when you start in the morning. If you stop to take a break, keep track of that too. Write down the time of day when you shut down for the night. And I mean the actual times, not the times you put in your logbook, but then again nobody lies on their logbook, right? For me it runs around $13 to $14 an hour (used to be more like $18 to $20) but I'm home every day. Didn't keep track of it when I ran OTR. But I think you'll find that its more than you'll make at Burger King, contrary to the popular assertion.

The way I look at it is this....If you love what you're doing, It's like you'll never really work a day in your life.
I make very good money at this and always have for the most part. But even if I wasn't making as much as I do, I'd still do this because It's what I love doing!
If I felt the need to sit around counting every hour that I'm away from home and divide it by the money I make and then sit around and feel sorry for myself because I have talked myself into how bad it all is...
I'd find something else to do...FriedTater, mceheel, longbedGTs and 6 others Thank this. -
Ah, Gnome Dude, I have to take you to task on your post. You can't expect to get paid to sleep and eat etc. And, there is no trucking company out there that led you to believe anything different, as far as pay goes. There is Fantasyland and there is the real world. Which one do you live in?
-
Oh yeah...In response to one of these threads a while back I got curious so I figured out how many hours I've worked versus the amount of money that I make and it worked out to be considerably more than $20.00 an hour.

Money isn't everything and it doesn't buy happiness. All you guys talk about stay away from trucking. I don't see y'all doing anything else and y'all know it too. I know y'all wouldn't want to be in an office with a bunch of stuck up women gossiping in an office all day talking about the latest celebrity crap.
mceheel Thanks this. -
American-Trucker Thanks this.
