Most guys from about Saskatchewan West only run a VHF. Trucks from the States and the rest of Canada typically have a CB. I run both radios to increase my odds of communicating with trucks from wherever.
You can often hear the authorities on Ladd 1 in some areas down in the States. That’s why they don’t really like us using VHF’s down there.
We’re also supposed to have a license with them as well but very few actually do.

I had a vhf in my truck when I ran Vancouver. There was way more road reports on it than the cb. Ladd 1 and 2, also got close to 35 mile range.
You are required to get a license from Industry Canada, I had one.
The old radio shop in the Calgary Road King had the forms.Another Canadian driver and Phantom Trucker Thank this. -

I installed one now that I work a lot in BC and the PNW. Very useful, worth every penny. great range and clear sound. bought it from a guy off of kijji in alberta. he shipped it to my house with every thing i needed and pre tuned with all the most popular channels and frequencies, as well as a list of all of them.
It has been useful state side as well. even though i don't speak i keep an ear out and have in advance heard state patrol or sheriff officers taking about an accident.Another Canadian driver, Oxbow and Phantom Trucker Thank this. -
What frequencies do they use up there ?

Ladd 2 & Ladd 3 are sometimes used as well. (158.94000 & 154.32500).Another Canadian driver, Oxbow and Tall Mike Thank this. -
I have LADD 1 and LADD 2 programmed in my Kenwood TM271A down here in ND. Some of the Canadian rig movers use them.
Being the radio was originally meant for the 2 meter amateur band, that's where TX was restricted to. Did a little mod to it. No problem now.Another Canadian driver and Tall Mike Thank this. -
