Cigarette smoke clean-up in a 2023 Cascadia

Pinesol and Windex... Lots of it on everything... Like soaking wet! Do this once a week for about a month.

And change all cabin filters, then change again in a couple months

 

When you drill the hole for the vent to go into drill it 1/32 SMALLER than the directions state... It makes the vent a little harder to push into place, but it wont leak or come out either. Ive done this to all my newer gas cans.

 

The kit you order on Amazon comes with a drill bit. Coarse and Fine threads. These seem to work great:

I bought a used car from a dealer that had been driven by a smoker. I'm not sure how they got the smell out, but there were mothballs under one of the seats. It looked like they forgot them there but removed the rest. Whatever they did worked too as the smoke smell was gone.

 

First step: Ozone machine. Set the timer to the longest run time setting (not constant on, but the actual timer), then let it sit closed up all night long. In the morning, fire up the truck, put the A/C on recirc, and run the HVAC for 15 minutes to circulate the ozone.

Open everything wide to air out, remove mattress and toss it in the dumpster. Unbolt the seats and put them outside in the sun. Start blowing out all the dust from every crack and vent with compressed air until clean. Then start by scrubbing every surface from top down with ZEP Smoke eliminator. Get a couple bottles of "Vamoose" smoke remover spray and pour them into the soap compartment of a steam cleaner and steam clean every fabric/padded surface with it (headliner, curtains, floor mat, and the now-removed seats). Use "Sprayaway" glass cleaner on all the clear plastics and glass, and the ZEP on the dash, console, cabinets, and other hard furnishings, scrubbing with brushes where necessary.

Once this process is complete, toss the seats back in and fire up that ozone machine for another night, the same method as the prior night. In the morning, run the HVAC again the same way, then open everything up and air it out in the sun again for a full day. Spray your air freshener of choice, install a brand new mattress, and you are ready to go.

This process takes an entire weekend to complete.

 

Tell company to assign a non smoking. The stink will keep coming back and spraying the truck down with fabreeze or other perfume crap is as nauseating as cigarette stench.

 

I'd demand a new truck, or they clean it on their dime, as it become a health concern for you.

 

That's a tough situation. There's not much you can do once the smell gets deep down in the truck. I'm sure some of what's been recommended might help a little, but most of that just masks the smell until you've been around it long enough to stop noticing. Like OldeSkool said, his wife still noticed even though he didn't. That's because she didn't spend enough time in the truck to get used to it.

If it's really bad, I'd give the truck back. You're making a huge sacrifice living on the road, you shouldn't have to do it in an ashtray.

 

I'm surprised that the company allows smoking in their trucks.
