Lets See Your First Truck!

Those are nice trucks, a little hard to shift, but really nice and rare. Keep that truck and fix it up. I love cabovers, as I drove them for many years. The wife is very nice also. Keep her too.

 

Well my first truck was a 1994 Volvo and 89 Pitts Log trailer...however i can't find the pic to it....My second truck was a 89 Pete and now I have the 85 freight shaker which i really like.

 

First truck I got paid to Drive was a 1973 Transtar 1 290 Cummins 4X4 tranny and a Rubber Block Suspension. I took that SOB in and out of Chicago Everyday hauling Nursery Stocks and hauled Grain with it. Also had a nasty fatal Accident with it a couple months later when the LF Drive axle spit the parking brake air line off. I will give IH credit that dang truck gave her lfe to keep me alive.

Best truck I drove 1988 IH 9300 444 Jacked to 720 to the Ground 13 Double Over 3.55 rears on 24.5 BIG RUBBER. SUcker would run like a Democrat chasing a tax increase yet could pull any grade like it was not there. Snowshoe in PA was a routine grade for me at 60 MPH UPHILL at 80K called hit it at 70 MPH in 12th gear and let her Scream grab 11th and I was fine to the top.

Last Truck I drove 2K C120 550 Detroit with a test program for 585/630 in it. God I MISS THAT TRUCK got 8 MPG in the flats yet had all the room in the world in that condo.

First job...Rhom & Hass, first truck...Rollins Rental Wreck..LOL!! dont' remember the year but had one of those shiney 290's. Don't ask how long ago that has been. If you're old enough to recognize the truck, fine, if you're not... don't even ask....LOL!! This was 'somewhere' in PA ....maybe Snowshoe mtn? too long ago to remember.

 

So,how did you like that old cornbinder?I tried to buy one a couple months ago but got outbid.Had a 250 and a 13 speed.Bet that was a smog hog gutless wonder combo.....

I can say that the truck is a '76 or '77 model by the sleeper side vent recess. The sides were flat starting in '78. Also appearsto be 144" to 150" wheel base, with probably a Hendrickson or Reyco 4 spring suspension.

I would guess the picture is from 1978, give or take a year or two. I remember Rollins Truck Rental well.

 

.... welll, seeing as how it was the first one I ever drove.. all I can tell you was I didn't know any better and had to have a job. ....no power steering, I got my exercise especially trying to learn to back up... That was back in the good ole days when you ran 3 log books, either jumped the scales or went around 'em. and there just was not that many women out there when I started driving... First female # Rohm & Hass, in fact, I was a 1st at several places, broke 'em all in very well too.

They found out real fast I wasn't playing, didn't complain much but didn't take any crap, didn't whine when I had to unload my own freight or re-pallet it.

Made lots of good friends that watched after me tho' and sure would like to see some of them again. oh yeah, and I weighed 125 wringing wet!

When I got really nuts and bought my own truck cause I didn't like being told where to go it created a huge stir at ICCC in Knoxville...
