Back a few years when my sister still worked at swift. One of her trainees took out a fence as described by Chinatown.
My sister told me about him and that he was fired for not reporting it. I wonder if it was the same new driver?chris8888 and Another Canadian driver Thank this. -
I agree that IMO incidents on private property do not affect you're drivers license. Some companies do not report to DAC etc. Some companies that do use DAC etc, vary in policy.
I've had a bump & scrap a time or two on private property over my 34 or so years & nothing has ever been on my DAC. I usually check it when I am looking for another job & its always been clean.
For me, in my situation, if it aint on my MVR or on DAC.... I have a clean record. I don't admit to anything that ain't there.Another Canadian driver Thanks this. -
Almost all businesses have video surveillance all over their property. Back in 2014, Hannah Graham was murdered in Charlottesville Va. I know just a typical college student in some college town dies, I am sure most don't remember this case. I do! The reason I brought her up was how her killer was found. The police used surveillance videos from local businesses. I tell drivers all the time to ASSUME they have been recorded when they are at a terminal a truck stop or at a business getting loaded or unloaded. With so many people using dash-mounted Go Pros etc you should assume being recorded while on the road too. While this did not happen in the US I do know of cases in the US where CMV drivers were arrested and cases made from this type of video.
I highly recommend you take care of things once you do damage. I know of several situations where carriers are now banned from some places because their drivers were caught by video doing damage. It's tempting I know, you hit another vehicle and get out see nobody around and think hmm I am OK nobody saw me do this. It's VERY tempting, DON"T DO IT!Savor the Flavor, JReding, runningman0661 and 3 others Thank this. -
Sorry but this is a problem in our industry, thinking like this is rather dumb. it reflects on all of us and it means we pay more insurance.
The drivers act like taking out a pole or hydrant is not a big deal but it is. it isn't normal and should have some consideration that the company reprimands or even firing the driver.
Many driver don't give a crap what they do, they are not legally on the hook for it, companies can't force you to pay for something they have insurance for. So accidents and incidents are up, they are sometimes really stupid because the driver's pool has been going down to the level of an imbecile - the reason why we are now seeing autonomous trucks.JReding, Sirscrapntruckalot, Geekonthestreet and 2 others Thank this. -
Back into a door and accidentally clip the guys next to you mirror, again - #### happens.
Thats what insurance is for.
Take the hood off someones truck and drive away, that there is no excuse for (or for that matter the mirror).
And you are right about some not caring. Its hard to even go into a fuel island and not see scuff marks on the yellow poles (hell Ive seen concrete barriers ripped from the ground at fuel islands). And frankly thats because of the 30 day CDL drivers. Got my license, now get out of my way because Im making $0.24 a mile and I need to make some money...
When I went to school, it was a 9 month course. I had my CDL after 21 days, but I stayed for the whole course. It helped that the VA was paying me to go to school (more than I would have made driving at 9 cents a mile in them days), but still. And frankly thats on the FMCSA. If they required the behind the wheel time to be adequate to GET your CDL to begin with, that would change a lot. But thats not how they think. Thats because they need people in them seats. The regs they put in place only make it harder to keep drivers in them seats. I dont want to derail and go down that road....
But the blame for all of it STARTS at the DOT.Another Canadian driver Thanks this. -

I just couldn't fathom myself wiping out someone's vehicle and driving off like nothing happened, unless it was on purpose.
JReding, chris8888 and PaulMinternational Thank this. -
Anything worse then a dinged pole I would never drive away from.
