Dock incident, was told good to go but a guy was still in trailer

    I have a concern , today I was being unloaded in Arizona , at a small receiver , so dock didn’t have no green light or red light set up, or any precautions. The thing is after being unloaded and empty the worker gave me the paper work and said I was good to go , so I simply said thank you have a good day , so I get into my truck and start pulling foward slowing to close my door , when I hear a loud noise coming from back of the trailer , happens to be the the same guy who told me I was ready go was inside the trailer when I was pulling foward. Thankfully he did not get hurt , but I’m just worried that I’ll get into some type of problem now . Any opinions or comments would help ease my mind , before leaving I spoke with the boss to clear everything up and he simply said it’s my fault but sense the worker was ok everything was good . Do they need make a report or should I be fine ?

    You learned a good lesson. Even if you're told you can leave, still check the trailer before pulling away.
    I've seen a truck pull away from a dock then pull over to close the doors and there's a forklift inside with the driver.

    Your boss is wrong. It's not your fault at all. If a report hasn't already been made you will get into no trouble, the worst that will happen is you simply will be banned from that specific location again.
    I used to pull out of a warehouse that was exactly the same way no lights no lock nothing. It's controlled 100% by paperwork. Once the driver is handed the paperwork it's assumed that the job is finished and the driver can pull out without a problem and if something does happen it's the fault of the fork truck driver that it happens to not the driver because well he was given the paperwork and was told it was fine to go.

    If they gave you the paperwork back and said you were good to go, I don't see how they can blame you. They signed paperwork because they got everything off the trailer.

    Had the same issue ONCE in Winston-Salem, NC, off of exit 103, Rt. 52.
    Backed to East side Dock with open secured trailer doors, inside people LOCKED Docking device therein initiating the RED light, then proceeded to whine about why I was there. Told me to pull off dock after giving GREEN light. Pulled straight off dock and personnel started YELLING to stop. Stopped 30+ feet and saw in mirror, passenger side, some clown was still IN trailer. Clown jumped out and I rolled to front (north side) dock. Their anger continued in office and ceased just before being emptied.
    Local shuttle from greensboro. did 5 that day. that was (full of) number 2.

    It's not your fault. They said it is good to go.
    It's a big problem today with people who don't speak English.

    you are still responsible to make certain that you ARE good to go.

    get out, go back there and CHECK the trailer.

    can there still be an issue with this?

    sure, when you get a court summons for injuries.

    G.O.A.L. at all times....

    Said its your Fault? The dock worker gave you the paperwork , told you you are good to go! Who's fault is it?
    I personally would have recorded the conversation with the boss and been adamant that he accept it wasn't my fault!
