Even if DEF became unavailable, there is a simple fix they can and will implement. Remember the PACCAR dosing pump issues last year? Entire fleets were going down and there were no replacement parts available? The EPA authorized PACCAR to eliminate the SCR portion of the tuning on the affected trucks until the parts became available and could be installed. Simple fix for a massive issue, and they would likely do the same if DEF became unavailable nationwide in order to prevent the economy from completely collapsing.

Only ever ran 0W-40, 5W-40 or 15W-40. Never ran 10W-30 in a diesel.

    Mostly Cats.

Even when at the dealer 0W-40 was the only engine oil on the bulk reel. Got put in everything year round unless the customer specified a different grade.

Goodyear CMV place hasn't been able to get 75w gear oil for months in bulk. They also have any oil you want for your PM as long as it's Rotella 15w-40.

True but easier said than done though. Unless one's a mech. wiz it will cost you 2-3K at least to get that done at a garage IF they want to do it....because it is ILLLEGAL + huge fines would be put on the operator if caught or inspected. Not to mention if the DEF shortage gets worse a lot of people will be thinking this also which will result in do it yourself changeover kits being gone quickly + garages willing to do the ILLEGAL changeover will be swamped also leaving them little time to do reg. maintenance on vehicles so there is pretty much no getting around this if you own a diesel engine 2010 or newer if it comes to that.

    True
It only will be a solution if governments says: there is no def, so you can temporarily run without it. Which is probably impossible…

Guess you folks missed where drtdevl said the EPA allowed Paccar to disable the SCR because of a huge parts shortage.

No I saw it. But in this case it’s basically whole system disable. With paccar it was only SCR no? o_O
