Hey look on the bright side.....at least you have a tough choice between 2 companies with great reputations........it could be worse in that you could be trying to choose the "lesser of 2 evils" :smt043

Hey, Road Dog! I've just signed up for a CDL driving school that starts on Monday, and contacted Roehl to make sure this school was ok with them. They recruit at this school so it's good, and the recruiter will be there next week and wants to talk with me. I'm really hoping to get hired with Roehl when I'm done with school in three weeks. Since you drive for them, do you have any advice for me? Thanks!

bbqribs68,I think you are making a good choice. As far as advice goes, just be open and honest about your driving and work history.I have found that most problems can be solved by talking with your dispatcher,(DSR).I realize there are other companies out there who are rated very high. But for right now Roehl is treating me pretty good.Your attitude and work habits will mean a lot in your new career.Best of luck to you.By the way I went thru orientation at the Gary,IN terminal. They had the new drivers and inexperienced drivers separated. It was a no BS down to the point orientation.

redlight,I drive the 7 on 7 off program for Roehl,so when I am at home another driver is using the truck.I believe the regular road drivers take their trucks home. You can always call or Email roehl to verify that.

Crete lets you take your truck home. That truck is assigned to you only until it's time to trade up.

Road Dog, thanks for the help. I'm pretty flexible by nature and easy to get along with, so I think I can work with just about anyone. I'm willing to drive a lot to move the freight and make money...but I do want to get home some to see my kids. I live about one hour from Gary so that will be perfect if I can have orientation there. I'm looking forward to getting going on this career and working again. My MVR is clean, only ever had speeding tickets, and accident is very old. Hopefully it'll be a good fit with me and Roehl...I'm going to try hard to get in with them.

By the way...you said you work the 7on/7off program. Does that work well with getting money? Do you average good miles? That program and the other program sound great for hometime....just wondering if I can still make some good money that way vs. OTR (home every 7-10 days). The recruiter said usually at the worst the OTR drivers get home every 7-10 days for a couple days off....does that hold true with Roehl, or is that just smoke?

I have been driving for Roehl for about six months now.I picked a good company to drive for.Although there have been a couple of issues,I have been able to straighten them out with my dispatcher,(DSR).Everyone there in the terminals, which includes management, maint.,etc are always happy to help you out.Answer questions, get parts and supplies for you, etc.Weekend and night dispatch also seem to be very knowlegable and will always give you a straight answer.I very seldom have to wait over 20 min.for my next dispatch, and if I do they will msg.me and tell me freight is slow right now. Then I can go to a truck stop and wait for my next load.In six mos.this has happened twice. My pay and reimbursments have always been right on the money.Roehl makes you feel like they appreciate you and treat you like a human being.I am probably one of the oldest drivers ,(age wise) on this sight, and I have learned throughout life that it is the little things that count. So in closing I give a thumbs up to Roehl Transport, and reccomend them to anyone looking for a driving job,and oh yeah for you newbies, give Roehl a call.
